Nervous flyer here 🤣

What's the flight like back on the Flybe planes?

The skinny turbo prop ones. As someone who's petrified of flying I'm not keen on planes that Bob about a lot..

It's a dash 8, they handle like go karts on the tarmac if they are in a rush, used to fly in them a lot back in Oz. they are OK but don't ride the bumps that well.

That bloke on the news was doing stunts in one  last week.

Right before he crashed and died.

I use Flybe a few times a year on those planes. They are a bit more bobby than the big 'uns but not dramatically so.

That said you can get a direct train from Manchester to Southampton in four hours ( and to SH airport if you need to be there). That way you get to avoid Manchester Airport Terminal 3! By the time you have got the airport. gone thru security etc etc the train might be easier and not much slower!

Used to do it regularly. Once we were flying along quite smoothly then CRASH! felt like we'd bounced off a mountain.

Apparently we'd just flown through the wake of another aircraft. God knows how close we had been, but it bounced the laptop off my lap.

I eventually gave up flying as I could drive it in the same time ( 4am depart for 8am meeting, home by 3pm).

I used to fly in those things a bit. They can get bumpy, but for some reason it doesn't feel as scary in them as it does when a bigger one starts to feel like it's getting out of shape...quite good fun in fact 🙂

You'd need a big, comfortable car to make that drive worthwhile.

A Superb estate or something like that?

Some good lease deals about, I've heard.

I would say the train is the better bet of you book a seat, easier and less hassle than flying

If its the same as the ones the use from Glasgow Airport to Belfast City Airport then the can be ok or absolute hellish depending on conditions and/or pilot.

used to do that route regularly 10yrs ago when working for Barclays.  it's fine.  can be a bit bumpy and I nearly always cracked my head on the overhead cabins on the way out.

in the end I started driving up and staying over as I was getting knackered.

they are fine, manchester landings usually pretty good, if it was leeds bradford i'd say catch the national express.

that wind is truely horrendous..

i flew down for the terriers inaugural premier league season, quite liked southampton and the hospitality, shame we only took a point

I don't know about the flying but the drive to Manchester won't be much fun with the all the roadworks on the M6

I'd say train purely because Flybe are crap at keeping to time.

We use them a lot for flying step son to/from Jersey - they're always delayed.

Ref LBA

Flights in Summer from Manchester and Leeds to <holiday destination> are the same +/- a few quid

Flights in October from Manchester and Leeds to <holiday destination> are £100 cheaper from LBA

I know why.... Craaaabbbbbbsss!

I've flown plenty on those Q400s and similar.  It's generally pretty good, I don't mind much at all and I do get airsick.  The weather seems to have far more effect on the journey than the plane does, as far as I can tell.

I fly Edinburgh - Southampton every other month.

I like the little Dash8/Q400 things. They're pretty quiet, comfy seats etc. They do move a bit, but you really do feel the pilot controling them, which I like.

I do it on a fairly regular basis for work, normally 2/3 times a month.

I live less than 10 mins from the airport though, and usually only going 30 mins away from the airport in Manchester. It's considerably easier than driving, and a hell of a lot faster/easier than the train for me.

Only had a problem once, with fog, and ended up overnighting in Manchester. Planes are fine, small, and vibrate a lot more than a jet, but fine 🙂

Never heard of any incidents in all the years they’ve being doing that route. I’d go by train anyway as it takes you to the centre of Manchester. The dreadful m6 puts me off driving it.

I fly on that type of aircraft often from manchester to dublin. They are noisy compared to the big ones but quite good fun before the novelty wore off.
