Will be down in Cardiff tomorrow evening, and having exhausted the potential limited entertainment at the hotel (ie the 4 basic TV channels!), was wondering if anyone fancied meeting up for a pint or a panad?

I'll be staying in the centre, and unfortunately sans bike, but happy to meet up and talk bikes or discuss the suble nuances of STW 🙂

I would love to, but my girlfriend doesn't like me meeting with hairy truck drivers who masquerade as women on the internet.

It's Welsh for 'cup of tea'. Which, sadly, isn't a euphemism.

I would love to, but my girlfriend doesn't like me meeting with hairy truck driers who masquerade as women on the internet.

If it's a vouch account, he's put way too much effort into it.

If she can keep talking welsh all evening, then in a "fish called wanda" kind of way, that may be all I need 😉

😯

I woon't if I were you Sue; never know what sort of reprobatic* scum you might meet...

It's a new word what I've made up. 🙂

LOL 🙂

I forgot for a moment that this was STW and thought that seeing if anyone wanted to just meeting up for a blether about bikes would be a fairly normal post! But it would appear that being a girl seems to cause a degree of consternation 🙂

Anyway, Kevevs or Elfinsafety can vouch that I'm harmless and relatively normal, (not that they are necessarily the best character witnesses 😯 ) Oh, and that I'm not a hairy truck driver!

But I think it might be a better call to stayed holed up in the hotel with my usual boring pile of reports ...

I would, but I am not sure I how I could explain to my wife and children that I have a meeting in city centre with a woman I don't know from the internet.

It could give the wrong signals.

Having said that, if you want an authentic Welsh experience close to the centre, try walking over to Y Mochyn Du (pronounced a bit like 'mockin dee') on Sophia Close off of Cathedral Road. It's cosy there, and they make good food.

SaxonRider, I got into enough trouble going for a ride with a woman off Singletrack when staying away from home...

Blimey! Some serious misinterpretation of my post going on here 😯

I only put it up 'cos I remember a few people posting similar 'I'm in town - anyone fancy a pint' requests ... really didn't think it would prompt this kind of response.

It's not your fault, Sue_W! Nor is there any misinterpretation going on. I think it's just honestly difficult for some of us to conceive of meeting up with a woman we don't know when we have responsibilities at home.

Sorry about that!

Whereabouts in Cardiff? I'm lecturing in Carmarthen tomorrow but will be passing back through mid afternoon.
Oh and it's Paned for tea 😉

shedbrewed - won't get to Cardiff til about 6 at the earliest (coming down from Bangor, meeting in Shrewsbury, then heading down after that). I'm usually working in Cardiff once a week or every other week, so maybe another time? Thanks for the first non-eyebrow raising response though!

Oh, and everyone up here just uses 'panad' (as in tisio panad?), or if you want to be more specific 'panad o te'. But dwi'n dysgu cymraeg, so I could be completely wrong 🙂

No problems Sue_W. I work in Cardiff most of the time, just happen to be out of there tomorrow. I'm an import, so nid wyf yn siarad Cymraeg I'm afraid. I'm just going from what my local chums say.
Either way, I do enjoy a brew!
If you want to drop me an email next time you're by it's userworldobject at gmail dot com Tues and Thurs are tricky days, but the rest are generally ok.
Have fun!

Woosh.... straight over sheds head.

I might be up for a quickie, would really depend on how I got through my workload tomorrow though.

Jeez! Does it really make a difference to you all what gender the person is that you go biking with / have a drink with / chat to etc? My friends are both male and female, and I go hiking / biking / climbing (and drinking!) with both.

Am geniunely surprised that the first reaction was 'oh it's a girl', I guess I just think of myself as someone who rides bikes 🙂 Think I need to change my forum name to something gender neutral! How do I do that?

I think it requires a surgical procedure, but I'm pretty sure Sue can be a boy's name too.

Sue_W - I actually though the responses were pretty fair. I've done the whole "I'm going riding with a girl I know via the Internet" thing and there's no doubt that it does sound a bit, err, dodgy to some folk. Those of us who use forums a lot tend to accept that it's a perfectly normal thing to do. Other, perhaps less computer-literate, folk just don't get it though. If your partner is one of the latter, then some degree of mistrust is possible.

I thought the responses predictable in their childishness. Immature little boys who cannot see a woman as a friend

True. In fact everyone knows this is exactly how brazen hussies who can't get their own man, tempt men away from happy homes.

Well, I didn't think they were quite that bad, but I hope they haven't put Sue off from posting something similar in the future.

I would be happy to meet almost anyone off here for a beer if they were in my area. As long as they didn't want to chat about bikes.

I've got a forum friend listed in my phone as Dirty Girl. My girlfriend thinks that's ace 🙄

iDave - you sound like my kind of date.

Sue_W, it's "boys banter" and "excuse mockups'"

You do realise boys like taking the p*ss and, well, being boys..

Thnakfully not all STW'ers are the same.

Hope you manage a beer with someone..
