GAME went down the pan recently but seem to have been bought out without ceasing tranding. However it appears that they're choosing not to honour pre-paid Gift Cards despite the money being paid and presumably forming part of the assets taken over by the new buyers. I don't suppose that there's anything that can be done about it but it seems pretty poor. I'm now the proud owner of two worthless bits of plastic.

I still hold my original Electronics Boutique card before they changed under the Game banner. It was still valid in the shops at Christmas and I'd been accumulating points on it for donkeys (as far back as Halo if I remember correctly). From hearing this above, I could probably kiss goodbye to them now 🙁

I could be wrong but I think that they're still honouring reward cards (which it sounds as if your card is if it's accumulating points). It seems to be the pre-paid Gift Cards that they're not honouring.

I'll try at the weekend. TBH, I used to be videogame daft till I got into biking, so I'd be trying out new games and trading them in quite often. Then Modern Warfare came out, pretty much played that & nothing else for 2 years till MW2 was realised. Played that 2 years and finally got fed up, never bothered with MW3, moved to BF3 and the love affair is starting to fizzle out.

I still have a preowned FIFA 2009 wrapped & never taken out of the box....never yet played it.

As they were bought out they're no longer in administration, so are now pretty much back to normal:

Well that is good news, thanks for that. Maybe my bits of plastic aren't worthless after all. There was a page up about not honouring the cards whilst in administration and some rather angry blogs on the Game site posted today about Gift Cards not being honoured; perhaps they got it wrong! It's certainly worth checking out when I'm next in a Game shop.

The reinstatement of the gift cards and rewards scheme only happened this afternoon, think there was a week or two where they were frozen.

MsD is a store manager for a GAME outlet. You should have heard the vitriol she's had hurled at her this last week because the cards could not be honoured due to the Co. being in administration. It was ILLEGAL for the company to honour the gift cards at that point but would the slack-jawed, slope-headed, 7-fingered-****wits that make up the overwhelming majority of GAME's customers even have the mental acuity to understand that small point?
Yes, you can't spend your stored tenner of some pointless online ****athon - these people were losing their jobs!

Get a grip people, over 2000 personnel lost their jobs last week.

PS - the cards were only suspended for a week or so, i'm so glad that some people's lives are so pathetic that the most important thing in it is the desire to press little buttons on a kids toy...

It must have been a tough time for all concerned, and it's usually the people on the frontline that aren't making the mistakes of those higher up that get hurt the most. However, having lost 60% of my hours in my main job and struggling to find a replacement it'd be nice to be able to get something out of the cards. I appreciate that the cards were suspended during the period of administration, it seems a little unclear at present whether the new company is honouring them or not (I guess that they don't have to).

Fantastic, I presume you work as customer services for O2?

7 fingers would surely be an advantage for gaming?

Just saying like...........

😆 I'm not allowed to meet customers due to my propensity for direct thought...

Pete, the 7 fingers might be an aid to gaming, but the webbing hinders movement and the drool sticks all the buttons together anyway...

Ah, she works in the Halifax branch, you should have said.
Glad that Game has been saved - still need to buy another Zumba Party belt.
Ms Spanner reckons sticking the vibrating controller down your pants is mucky.

Anyway, I'm busy measuring how much my head slopes. 😀
Quite a lot, tbh.

😆 I'm not allowed to mention which branch is hers due to the threat of immediate and extreme pain!

It's not been a good time for the staff TBH, lots of people coming into the stores and giving them grief over issues they can't control. Glad i don't work in those stores 'cos i'd be in a cell about now - with the police surgeon still trying to remove a chav's ear from my teeth!

My son had just traded a load of games in and got a 'trade in' card. Can i ask is this still valid and can it be used online to purchase anything.

The trade in cards can y be used in store at the moment (so i am told) and the trade in/gift cards go live again from tomorrow.

makes you wonder what kind of staff they need in their shops to communicate with the customers then, doesn't it?

the most important thing in it is the desire to press little buttons on a kids toy...

Which helps pays the bills, does it not? 😉

My wife's the same. I work in IT but she hates IT.
