As a world weary aging chronic dysthymic few things lift my mood these days but last summer I heard some sounds drifting out of a car window at a local carboot sale . I was heavily into reggae when younger so perhaps that was partly the reason , however ..this had a sound unlike the Jamaican roots and others I had loved many decades ago . I found the voice and temp particularly lifting and asked the young chap next to the car about it and he told me the track was called "World on fire" by stick figure from an album of the same name . I'd never heard of him/them so on return home found the album on YT and ever since never become bored with it as many ....in fact the majority of tracks are so uplifting. I know it's all subjective it won't be many people's cup of tea ..but if you're an old hippy/rasta at heart have a listen . With time I love the songs and lyrics even more and actually use some of the tunes to get me through my daily cold shower routine ..which at this time of year is challenging but with the help of Stick figure and the cold water it's an instant mood boost . Also just perfect for cycling and help you up the steepest hills during winter miles. Chuck on your headphones and crank up the volume for the required effect . Over and out .
Ooh, me likes...
Thats nice - lovely roots feel but not slavish copy / pastiche
Thank you
Yeah... nice enough. Reggae can either pass me by or completely grab me, but that's sort of in between.
I've still never tracked down the name of this track or the band (the complete mix is excellent by the way, well worth 65 minutes of anyone's time)
Like. From a 2-tone / ska fan.
I played (most) of the album from Spotify yesterday while making dinner for the family. The first track was good. So were all the others (I think) as they were all almost entirely the same.
Mrs BigJohn said it felt like being trapped inside an omnibus edition of Death In Paradise.
Oh, and 13thfloormonk, According to the description of the YouTube track you linked to, that track is Midnight Groovers - Stranger. There's a full album listing there.
Nice ....try The Hempolics , me love to sing
