I'm currently driving a 2025 Kodiaq SE hire car and I'm finding the brakes very peculiar. They stop the car OK but there seems to be varying levels of what I can only describe as servo pushback from the pedal meaning that in order to get it to brake anywhere near smoothly I need to try and modulate the pressure applied to the pedal to match the pushback. It's most odd, and not something I've experienced in any other car. When the pedal is pushing back against my foot it's as if the brakes are not being applied as firmly/released by an amount similar to the pedal travel pushing back and additional pressure is required from me to continue braking appropriately. Then all of a sudden the resistance will change and the brakes will apply with the correct force meaning that they sort of grab, jolting the passengers. Additionally when the pedal is pushing back I can sometimes detect what feels like the ABS kicking in right as the vehicle slows to a stop. This happens when braking at all speeds and with varying levels of interference from the car.
Anyone got a Kodiaq that does this also or has mine just got a knackered brake system...?
I have no idea I’m afraid, but as a skoda owner (all hail the Roomster!) have you tried on Briskoda forum? Always been useful when i’ve had a query.
I have posted on Briskoda but it seems to be very quiet on there… bit like here of late… There’s a Kodiaq UK forum. I’m quite keen to know if it’s a “thing” with this model as I’ve ordered a PHEV one as a company vehicle and none of my local Škoda dealers are able to make one available for a test drive anytime soon. I suppose I could see if a mechanic would drive it but as it’s a hire car so not really in my remit to take it to a garage!
It is if you want to know though...
Well I suppose if I want an answer I could…
It appears to be related to the “recuperation” setting - it can be changed from Auto to Low in the infotainment and when set to Low it’s much better. Additionally I have read on the Škoda website that a light press of the pedal initiates the recuperation and pressing harder makes the brakes kick in. It seems very poorly implemented though if it’s not faulty. It feels like it’s constantly swapping between the two modes and not very smoothly… I’ll have another test tomorrow now I know that as I have a 4hr drive to do so plenty of opportunities for different scenarios.
