I've been thinking about doing it to get me out and about with my new camera a bit more.
Anyone else doing it?

Done it 3 times successfully & a bit bored of it now, might try 365 selflies & depress myself how older I look this time next year

Started it before, but always ran out of steam. You get bored of running around at 11pm trying to take a photo of something mundane.

I'm going to do a photo a week thing instead - should be slightly more achievable for me, and let me take a half decent/interesting photo every week instead.

Post up links to your flickr album or whatever so we can encourage each other.

@pixel, yes 1 a week sounds better. Most of the people I know who have tried 1 a day have got bored and stopped

I did it last year and I really came to resent it in the end; having to take a photo regardless (I was trying to avoid repetition).

Also any (Flickr) *discussion* disappeared after about 6 months made it worse.

As a result I've barely touched a camera this year...

I tried to get into a couple of years ago and really struggled for inspiration, a short commute and a young family weren't a great mix!!

blipfoto is a good site, I would love to have a go again sometime.

Good luck!

did a couple of 365's. learned a lot, and experimented a lot more than i would have done.

the 365 ended up being take a photo at midnight, and the photo a week ended up being a "take a photo every sunday".

gets tricky in the middle of the year, but the closer you get to the end, as you see the finish line, you get a bit more motivation.

if you miss a day by mistake, don't bail, keep going and try to get as close as possible to 365 rather than all or nothing. you learn from the experience, not the success.

yup..

ill be doing it..

I have been going since mid 2009.. though i haven't uploaded my pics since the end of august..! something to catch up on later tonight..

Its amazing how even the mundane rubbish 11pm photos (which most of mine are) set the synapses firing and i can then remember stuff that happened i otherwise wouldn't.. 8)

I done a 366 in 2012, and did consider going for a 1000.
Before quickly reminding myself how much stress was involved when it got to 9 at night on a day when there had been no inspiration!
After a couple months, I made a point of always having a couple ideas kept in the house for those days where inspiration was non-existent.

My 366 can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/mc_mtb/sets/72157628759571981/

Quite a few of the photos I took are pretty rubbish i.e. the last minute find something remotely interesting to photograph, but looking back through the collection reminds me of the miriad of things I done that year.

My main tip would be always make a point having your camera on you or easily accesible.
I always had my mobile as a backup, but it was annoying when I got a good photo opporunity where a bit zoom would make the difference between a mediocre photo and a brilliant photo.

I have two favourite photos from my collection.
This one appeals to the mechanic in me -

And this one to the biker -

Thankfully it wasn't mine. It just happened to be lying like that on the picnic table at the top of Spooky Wood one day I was there after work.

I've been doing this since the start of 2013. I would have given up a long time ago if it weren't for Blipfoto (This is me), it's free to join and there's loads of other people on there to inspire you.

I felt the same about it as metalheart, from the sound of it.

I got to really hate it towards the end and have barely used my camera since.

tried it once, came to my senses after about a month.
For me good photography is spontaneous and inspired, never forced.

Just about to finish my second year, I've enjoyed it and it's amazing to look back at all the places I've been as I travel around for work and pleasure a fair bit so content was quite easy, had a few desperate shots of course.

I have decided not to do the same in 2015 am taking a break.

I did a 365 a couple of years ago but had the same problems as other people above.

I'm planning on doing One Photo Every Week again though, this is the Flickr Group that was set up by some STW'ers a while ago. There's only two people on there now though I think...

One Photo Every Week (Flickr)

Joined - looks like a nice little group. The current shots look good.

Handily, Canon have cashback on the macro lens I have fancied for a while, so I have taken the plunge, and Mrs P tells me that the postie has just dropped it off. That should let me shoot more interesting shots around the house on weeks when I struggle to get anything decent outside.

Just about to start my 3rd year

Yes, it's a pain sometimes, but I think it's worth it in the end.

Get my years printed into photo books, which gives something a bit more tangible. It's surprising, but even mundane 'oh crap I haven't taken a photo' shots trigger memories for that particular day

Flickr group here

There's a few STW's on it

i'd 365 selfie it, but not sure it would be good for my mental health.

I am intetested in giving the 365 a go. A photo taken each day so far this year. What does anybody suggest for uploading, storing the images. The Blipfoto looks quite good. Or is Flickr they way to go? I've not used any image hosting to store photos online before.

I started in 2010 and am still going on the originally STW group:

https://www.flickr.com/groups/onephotoeveryday/

The sense of community has taken a dive over the last year or two, but I think it could be revived.

I am going to keep it up I think - having started on Year 6 it seems difficult to stop now!

Starting year 3 now. It can be a bind some days when inspiration is lacking but looking back over the year is fantastic.
I don't half get about! ๐Ÿ˜€

I'm a member of the Flickr group above. The first year I uploaded my photo daily, except where impossible. Nowadays I tend to be more relaxed and sort them out and upload several days worth at a time.

It's a great record to have. Do it, but accept you will lose enthusiasm but it's worth fighting through. Even the mundane shots are good memories and link up the days when you're doing something special. It gets you more creative with mundane stuff.
