I need to set another, louder, text alert tone to a specific contact. I need this to be audible, even if the phone is on silent. Anyone know how to do this?

If you set the default tones as silent ones but set the "Specific Contact" ringtone as something else that might get you close.

I bet "automate it" can do it, or else "tasker" definitely would but stoner's way is likely much less hassle

Tasker is brilliant. I have all sorts of things automated on my phone thanks to tasker. It takes some working out with the logic to get what you want, but you can probably find most things on their wiki pages.
