My sofa has given up the ghost and it would be handy to have extra bed space for visitors as i live in a smallish flat but haven't got a clue what to look for. Don't want to spend a fortune though, £500-600ish?

we have one similar and the bed is surprisingly comfy.
it gets used lots.

It's our only sofa but then before that we had an Ikea Klippan for 6 years so I don't think my standards are very high 🙂
