Just about to buy one and wondered whether there is anything better about the same price, after nearly crapping myself at the price of the ipad and samsung galaxy.

I know the blackberry has a few detractors and problems but i've only got pretty simple needs as in the internet and playing music and films.

Any pros or cons fire away.

There have been a few discussions about them over the last few days

My opinion is that if you are just going to use the web browser and email then its good vfm but a Android or iPad is going to get better support from third party developers over the next few months/years.

Yep, I did, my Dad did and a friend did too.

As GrahamA says if you just want a handy browser/media player you won't go far wrong. App support is well below Apple/Android but I don't want any apps so not fussed. Having said that Angry Birds is available so I bought that, kind of had to really. 😀

From the research I did the support for Android apps will be limited. Shame because I was considering having a punt at that price.
Any proprietry tablet operating system outside of Ipad, Android and possibly Windows tablets is doomed to failure due to app support.

£180 if you look around

I've looked and can't get anywhere near that. Any specifics?

I did been well pleased, from what I can see most apps are just gimmicks anyway. That said I am hoping the feb update will bring some improvements in email and android support.

Work supplied me with one as they have a strict "no Droid" policy could be kind of interesting come Feb.
Its slow to boot but once running seems to work well enough, mind you I mostly use mine for adobe versions of machine manuals so I'm not exactly pushing it to its max!

Asked my riding buddy this the other day, and it's his job to know, he says they are a bargain at the lower price and the soon upcoming software update should sort the bugs. Although he's got a kindle fire for testing purposes, and it has to be said it's pretty cool, but for a lot more bucks that the Blackberry.

Just noticed that the blackberrys run QNX, which is a true real-time operating system.

Anyone know of stock of the HTC at £180?

Articles found by Googling and rumours not much use.

At the price, there is nothing better. As already mentioned OS2 will come soon with native email client. I bought mine at full price and have enjoyed it for eight months.

I'm not that bothered about Apps, since I use it for web browsing and pdf reading for work. IF you have a blackberry, the integration is great. If not, it will probably be in Feb.

i've only got pretty simple needs

That phrase makes me shudder. Hardware and software is so good these days that "Jo Punter's" simple needs are often much more than they first thought.

playing music and films

...then you'll wonder if you can stream your music and films to your hi-fi/TV like you saw once on that telly advert, and it looked dead simple then. Next thing you'll be wondering if you can use it to view your photos on. Oh, and it'd be good if you could do a bit of photo editing too. Why are your photos not showing where they were taken like you saw on that other advert? It's only a simple need. That long train journey? Maybe a few books/games would be good...

Sorry, being a bit cheeky, but the point is that you may find that when you realise you can do more than just surf the 'net and watch a few films, you may regret getting the more limited option. I think App support is the biggest factor in choosing a tablet.

I can't find any now. PC World/Currys sold them, but only for about a day. Anyhow my Honeycomb update for HTC Flyer is downloading now 🙂
