We are looking for a holiday at the start of October and this comes up as somewhere warm.
Never heard of the place til 5 minutes ago!
Anyway, where's good, can you see anything if you snorkel,if its waves would it be worth body boarding ?

A friend went last year and said it is a very relaxing place to go if you like to take it easy .It looks like other islands in the group are more interesting for walking /mtb than the ones the hotels are on but I couldnt work out if it was feasible to get to them

Ohhh meeeeee!!

I went windsurfing there, 'twas awsomnez !!

Ok, the island is a bit baron in parts, but it's no different than say, Grand Canarias.
Locals have made a massive effort to get folks over there after what was an island in the middle of nowhere, so it's now a pretty good spot for hols. It's a blooming long way by plane though so bear that in mind.
The main town Sal has a sort of hippy relaxed vibe, the other smaller villages are one street affairs. As far as sightseeing goes, well the beaches and breaks are most excellent.

Would I take a family? He'll no, it's too far and too remote and not a lot to do, with so much more local choice available too it just seems a luxury one step too far.
Would I go windsurfing or kitesurfing again, yes, yes but in another few years.

Look kip PlanetWindsurfing on the net, my mate runs to company.

Which island are you looking at? We went to Sal in May and the weather was amazing, mid 30's every day and it hasn't rained there for nearly 8 years so the land is very flat and barran. There isn't a huge amount to see or do as the island isn't that big. They hold the windsurfing champs there quite often so good if you are into that sort of thing. The main town on Sal is Santa Maria and there is hardly anything there to see or do and you get hassled a lot from the locals to buy stuff. The hotel was great and loved the all inclusive and the beaches were really nice.

Did I enjoy it? Yes it was a great pace to just relax but I wouldn't be able to spend longer than a week there. Would I go back? No I wouldn't as it isn't the type of place you can visit again and I wouldn't take a family there as I think they would get bored quite easily.

Went to island of Sal on honeymoon a couple of years back in September, great place to relax and catch some rays, did a tour of the island including the salt quarry that only took half a day so not loads to see and do, if you do go make sure you try their local brew Ego beers, scarily drinkable strong lager that they sell on ice cream shops!

Went to Sal for a week. Great if you like wind/kite surfing. Otherwise it was like going on holiday to a quarry with a beach attached. Too grim for me.

I work for a company that specialises in tailor-made holidays to Cape Verde and the Azores. I just got back from my first trip to Cape Verde - seven days of island hopping, and every island offers something different.

I'm guessing it would be against the forum rules to add a link to our site ! My email address is in my profile though - drop me a message if you'd like any advice (and we don't do the hard sell !!!).
