as above, ive looked on the web and someone suggeste VBulletin but its £100 for a unlimited license.
i currently have set up a free phpbb forum but it only lets you have 20 users which is a pain in the arse.
are there any free, unlimited users ones out there that any of you use for your mtb websites?
our site is hosted by fasthosts but they dont seem to have forum facilities.
cheers
phpbb was never limited when I last installed it on my personal web server? Is it your host limiting it?
no mate, i have the crappy remote hosted one, its not on my actual fasthost account/webspace its a free one with ads on it with a crapy URL. 😕
Ah I see. Well I'd offer you space on my server for nowt with any size forum you like but I cant guarantee its uptime and it's not going to be the fastest in the world, plus it's on a dynamic IP so the domain needs to be bought somewhere that accepts dynamic IP changes automatically (like dyndns.com) or one of the freely available second level domains like my car wiki (www.alltrac.hobby-site.com or jbuckle.homeip.net) so its probably not much use to you.
cheers, im going to give this one a go http://www.freeforums.org/about.php
test it first see what happens!
20 users on phpBB? Do you mean 20 members? I'm using phpBB on our forum AND hosted on fasthosts and we've got more than 20 members...
fasthosts say: ASP.NET 3.5 & PHP5
so you should just be able to upload the phpbb package and configure it yourself

s'what I did. and if *I* can do it anyone can! not a fan of fasthosts to be honest - find their hosting packages to be poorly spec'd but I inherited the hosting contract unfortunately so will switch when it runs out.
Like munkster ses. We have 100+ registered users, using the free phpbb2 stuff. There's no limit - they want you to have more users so they can sell advertising to them. You sure you're limited to 20?
i tried to set up the 'proper hosted' one and my head melted.
I can sympathise having sorted our club out with a new website:

I found Wordpress an excellent platform to work with, we're using the Atahualpa theme and the Simple:Press forum - it's all free but we've given a small donation to the theme and forum chaps as it seems only fair.
Hosting on Zen Internet is also excellent - they've got a control panel which makes installing Wordpress extremely simple...

ja, my head has only just solidified again but it IS possible, you just have to root around on the web for a bit to work out how it works.
i think i did have to pay (see! typical!) fasthosts for a mysql db whereas on my cheap n' cheerful personal hosting (with "hostroute" - who are great) i get mysql db's aplenty for free. go figure, as they say.
