Just wondered if anyone enjoyed it or hated it.

Why, out of interest? Personally, I can't think of anywhere I'd like to live less.

I spend 2-3 days in Kuwait for work once or twice a year, no way in the world I would want to spend any more time than that there.

77K wage offered to start in Oct ‘18.

Wife doesn’t want to move Dubai but she is keen on Q8 for 45k.

I do love the heat in moderation.

Don’t have enough points for Oz 🙁

77k doesn't sound like a lot for Dubai unless all rent/medical cover/school fees/etc are covered on top. I have family in Dubai and their rent would have been half that salary.

Temperature gets up to high 40°'s sometimes hits 50° on summer.

We considered moving out too but after a fortnight holiday I'd had enough.

Dubai is much more livable of the two - Insusoect your wife doesn’t fancy Dubai as she knows more about it. Dubai does feel like an Arab Vegas and there are vwry many expats chasing gold there. That said there is a good underlying community if you can get into it.

Key thing is whether you can really save when there aftwr laying for accomodation and factoring in the flights and holdiays youbwill take for some respite. Not sonfar from Uk amd great flight connections from Dubai and plenty of destinations further East

I’d check into full package and what you’ll have to pay for. Inassume you have a house in UK which you may chose to rent out. Many don’t as often non-working wife wants to travel back regularly inc all of July/August for example (too hot)

Have never lived in either but been visiting for work for 30 years and know a few long term expats (eg 40+ years) in Dubai.

Interesting info.

Package on top as you guys have mentioned also includes flights to the U.K. and 9 months work per year.

I think the people who built the pyramids had more workers rights than the average person in Dubai. Hell on earth, can't think of anything worse, even Basingstoke.

Did for 6 years.
Have some good memories but wouldn't recommend it to anyone, ever.
Unless all you want to do is earn money.

At least BlazingSmoke has a job Lewis.

Dubai is a hateful shithole. Even the shortest of work trips has me looking for the exit almost as soon as I land.

I've a mate who's been in Q8 for a few years now. Seems to grudgingly enjoy it, but he earns a lot as a teacher, has almost no expenses as his accom is paid for by the school, and he does private tuition to further supplement his income.

No booze in Q8, and apparently the plane out frequently runs out of it given somewhat rapid consumption by all on board! Also apparently the internet is crap, and I know he's struggled to skype quite often.

Can't say either appeal to me.

Can't possibly imagine why.

Q8 is awful. Nothing to do except go to the mall and eat or leave to Dubai for the weekend

and those salaries are really really really low for over there

Package includes a flat ? That last part is interesting .. 3 months off ! Zero tax and a lot of play time. As above £75k doesn’t sound that high for Kuwait certainly nor Dubai but it does depend what else is included.

I could have gone to Dubai instead of Singapore on an internal transfer, it was fairly easy to choose Singapore as it was the HQ and much more going on work wise, leisure time and local travel. I am no great fan of Dubai but it’s not as bad as some of the detractors say. I did consider it

Good luck

I'd have to say you need to approach it like the guys going to work in the mines in Oz.
What do you need the cash for?
How much are you going to save?
When will you get out?

The salary is in some ways irrelevant it's what you take away from it, if you have a 3 year plan to come back to the UK with a 50% deposit for a house then great make it happen. If not why are you doing it?

Big shake up on Oz visa's coming anyway (part way through) so probably less chance of getting here.
