OH has just bought a board, cliche deck and enuff trucks.
we're both well into our 40's,and i haven't stood on a board since 1983 what could possibly go wrong?
any tips or links to good "how to" videos?
we'll try to stay out of the ED Drac

But videos like this keep tempting me to drag the longboard out of the shed...
I just cruise quarterpipes and bowls now, no more jumping down stairs. Enjoy!
same as howsyourdad, cruising the mini ramps and quarters/bowls, its great fun, ive built a mini ramp in the back garden..(for the kids of course)
I was soooooo tempted when Aldi had longboards in a few weeks back. Thankfully they're out of stock now or I'd be clogging up casualty as I speak/type 😆
Ex skateboarder here.
I occasionally get my rose tinted spectacles out and think about getting back into it, but then I realise how much it hurts and that my body is knackered and forget about it for another year or two.
I do have a board, which is a mongrel of normal board and trucks, with risers and longboard wheels on it, but I haven't ridden it for ages.
A longboard is in my future though.

pervert
being way to old for street skating:
Ex skater here, I just built up a new board.....
However I've badly twisted my knee unloading the van & seriously hurt my shoulder switching off the bedside alarm clock. Maybe i'll just hang it from the wall.
Unit 360 in Stourbridge every other Tuesday. Full of people who can't walk very well. I stick to the big bowl as there's s bit of transition to fall onto, but the floor appears very quickly when things go wrong.
I've just built a new board up been out twice just cruising about, went twoards the skate park in exhibition park Newcastle and then realised it was the kids holiday so decided I'd leave it to another day when I can crash in peace
Do you have someone following you around with the mandatory video camera?
Only when noel Gallagher is about.
This is intense.
I keep thinking about learning to skateboard or getting some roller blades. At 33 years old without kids am I too old? Will I look like a tw*t?
You sound like a tw*t by even mentioning rollerblades 😀
That's what I thought. Just asked the boss (OH) about getting a skateboard or roller blades. It was a short discussion.
I retired at 40. Have been broken too many times to even consider getting back on the board at my age. Ive got a lovely long board in the garage that keeps trying to tempt me though
Plenty of longboards in Chipping Norton Aldi.
Prob need a decent set of wheels (I assume they will be rubbish, but have no evidence to back this up).
Out under the cover of darkness only!!!!!
Skated a lot in my teens, decided to give it a crack again in my mid twenties, bought a set-up, went to skatepark with friends, one of them fell and fractured elbow, arm swelled to bigger than his waist, I put my set-up on eBay. I'm a liability with dirt to fall onto let alone concrete!
Started skating last year at 49. Never done it before, slow progress. Keep getting told I'm a cool dad so can't stop
I am retired at 30. The rose tints come out when I see my old setup hanging in the garage but concrete hurts a lot more nowadays.
I have a Blind deck, Independent trucks, Ricta wheels.
I rarely skated parks etc but would love a go in a small bowl or shallow bowl. I always fancied building a shallow half pipe in the garden.
I have a half decent Chocolate setup, not been out on it for ages though. I really need to get down the Skatepark. I also really fancy a longboard / cruiser, might have to have a stroll to Aldi.
Im 44 and bought a new board last month, this is my first efforts of skating within an hour i could do this.
Hourever, i did step of on a ramp and my ankle has never been the same since!!
Enjoy
53 in a couple of months, often go up the park with my board, get maximum respect from the local yoofs, peers, not so much.

I'm assuming you skated before .. and this wasn't the first time you'd ever been on a board?

You're right, i skated loads in the 80's.
🙂
Middle Aged Shred, loads of older skaters. As skateboarding didn't become popular until the 70's or 80's guys in their 40-50's are the first generation and nobody knows really when you're supposed to give up
Just expect plenty snash for jealous workmates that think skateboarding is for kids but harbouring desires to play out their football fantasies are perfectly fine for a grown man
Ok. Right. If someone, let's say a friend, wanted to buy a longboard should she go for a pin tail or a drop through (see [s]I've[/s] she's already done a little bit of googling) ?
I've just bought a drop through, it's amazing!
Reminds me of snowboarding. I can really lean on it in corners.
Just starting to make it slide.
Riding easy hills and just a great way to unwind, like riding a bike but not.
You're right, i skated loads in the 80's.
I was thinking thinking you may have had a talent for it!!
I skated loads in the early ninties..way to old to take it up again. Went to a skatepark about 10 years ago, got carried away and broke my finger. Nowadays I watch from a distance...
I scared the crap out of myself when i got into a bit of speed wobble on my daughters zFlex longboard a while back. I still keep toying with the idea of getting myself something a little less challenging though - some people just never learn!
I've just bought an Aldi drop-through 😀 Casualty, here we come!
I'm 42. Your never 'too old'
Just got off the mini after a little session with the kids.. Just pad up and stay loose..
