If a retailer is offering cashback on an item, and that offer is a key factor in your decision to buy the item, and subsequently the cashback payment is never made...

is there a contractual obligation for the retailer to pay, considering the cashback was a fundamental part of the offer & decision-making?

or is Cashback just a load of smoke and mirrors used by retailers to suck people into buying something from them (who they would never have considered in the first place)?

In my experience the cashback has always been paid.

But the cashback is usually fundamental in my decision making (ie, if that makes it the cheapest option - especially on insurance etc).

I've never had a problem, but it did take about 4 months to get our £150 for signing up to Virgin TV.... But it's free money, so I don't mind! 🙂

They will send you a lot of emails bordering on spam.

Sadly, there is no obligation for them to pay up.

I've had a couple where they haven't and there is very little you can do about it, apart from raise a claim, and even then nothing is guaranteed.

The only one I've had that didn't go through straight away was 02, due to a strange contract adjustment at my end (Rather than just a new contract). Still got it, but it took 4 months but all I had to do was raise a claim and fire off a couple of emails to keep them interested.

In total I've got over 600 quid back in 2 years now and only ever bought if the cashback made the deal a lot better than I could get elsewhere.

They will send you a lot of emails bordering on spam.

Not really spam at all when you've signed up for a discount deal site is it? You entered knowing this would happen and that you'd get discounts....

Most of my sales don't track for some reason, but upon raising a claim they have all been paid eventually. Even if Ensure did take over a year!

I'm still waiting for an insurance payback several months after taking out the policy, It doesn't inspire me to use the site again in a hurry.

I assumed on taking out the policy that any actual cashback received would be a perk though!

The rule of thumb I've always been told in relation to cashback sites is to find the best deal and then see if there's cashback available for it. The cashback is a nice to have, but shouldn't form part of the who to buy from decision.

Tracking sales over the web can be a wee bit complicated and relies largely on browser cookies to work.
EG: If you looked at the STW site, the CRC advert may lodge a cookie in your browser.
If you then decide to buy something from CRC via Quidco, CRC may detect the STW cookie before the Quidco cookie and so they will pay the referral fee to STW rather than Quidco.

It's always best to clear your cookies (it's an option in the browser somewhere) first, then go to Quidco. Even that's not 100% guaranteed to get you the referral fee but it increases the chances of it all working.

I used it to buy M&S home insurance. Think the cashback was £40 or £45. Took 7 months to arrive, but arrive it did. Quite pleasant, as I'd forgotten all about it!

bought an Orange phone thru Quidco, got £25 cashback from orange and £18 from Quidco, so happy all round. Get the odd emails from Quidco with adds, no different to any other retailer.

Yeah I use it all the time - only been let down once.

This year my car insurance is costing £160 - bargain!

Quick edit.........yep you need to be patient but it does usually give you the expected payment times when you look at each merchant.

Topcashback have been 100% reliable for me, and have a "lost transaction" process too. Very slow sometimes.

I'm interested to see whether 3 pony up the £115 they owe me for an iPhone bought 3 weeks ago.

For me one of the best Quidco cashbacks is that with Merlin... who are already pretty cheap

I was a regular user and had a fair bit of cash back, but when I had a payment turned down, there was no help or real explanation, it was for over a £100 on a mobile contract with 3 which without the cash back I would have gone payg, afterall it was only for the wife.
I'm a bit cautious now of using them, although if an offer is the same as someone elses and theres a chance of cash back i'll use them.

Password? Never been asked for a password on it, other than my initial login. I think you may be being asked to enter your quidco password to confirm a change of bank detail.

I'm getting £120 cashback from Vodafone, in various stages, so far so good.
Have had a few in-store returns too, as I registered a debit card with them & used it in the affiliated shops.
I didn't get my money back from getting NT membership through them though, the cashback company supplying Quidco went bust, and they were relying on them for quite a lot of the referral money from some of their biggest high-street chains.

I've used TopCashback for nearly 2 years now & have had about £450 in actual payouts now.

I agree with verses I find the cheapest deal, then see if there is cashback ontop of this.

Most of the time it does track - Only had 3 times where it didn't - MoreThan, Legal & General & T-Mobile (annoying as I was meant to get about £140 total from these).

Items from EBay, CRC, Wiggle, Play & Merlin always seem to track & payout for me.

Also, Don't forget..

Register your cards with them, and every spend in store at debenhams,B&Q, halfords and a few others gets you cashback also.

I'm using it, bought a few small items and then a sky upgrade. Not got the £100 from sky yet but I got told I can cancel my subscription if I don't get it etc... We'll see. As said free money at the end of the day so it's all a plus
