We will be in touch
The ceiling on our landing and one bedroom is covered in woodchip and I suspect the underlying plaster is not good and I was thinking of having it underboarded and skimmed.
Is there any way to have this done with the carpet down (i.e. if it was all covered in plastic) or does it have to come up to avoid being ruined?
Nah it'll be fine
(Son of a proper old school plasterer.... went on loads of jobs during school hols.... saw more than enough to know it was too much like bl00dy hard hard for me to follow in the old fellas footsteps)
plastic sheet masking taped to the skirting and dust sheets on top and you should be ok.
Overboarding isn't going to generate much mess so it's just dropped plaster you need to worry about.
dropped plaster and paint splatter when your painting the roof 2/3 times - so dont rush to take up the plastic once hes done plastering 😉
"Roll & Stroll" from screwfix will sort the carpets no problem.
Run it over the skirting too to make life easier.
A decent plasterer won't make much mess anyway.
Cheers guys 🙂
my mate (who is a good plasterer) is a right messy git, though this could be down to the mates rates offered..A decent plasterer won't make much mess anyway.
all plasterer's I've seen were messy bastards, very picky with their work but it does go everywhere! Its the nature of the job really.
Maybe I'm just lucky then.
When I was going bathrooms, the guy I used was very tidy. Even when he was plastering in a totally stripped out room, he would scrape the floor boards clean and clean the windows, sills, skirting a etc before he left.
aye cleaning up behind your self is fine but thats a little harder with a carpet.
tbh ime even i manage not that much mess - but if you stuck a carpet below me i guarantee i would drop a big splodge on it.
my mate (who is a good plasterer) is a right messy git,
He's not a good plasterer then is he ??
Even when he was plastering in a totally stripped out room, he would scrape the floor boards clean and clean the windows, sills, skirting a etc before he left.
Yep ... maybe not gleaming but the old man would always have a good clean up and would never leave drops anywhere.
His pet hate was a stained path/driveway/road from knocking up render/screed ... when ever I see the tell tale sign of where mucky water has flowed its way to a curd side drain, I think of the time he b0ll0cked me for not cleaning up properly.

Exactly. That's why I said to cover the carpet with roll&stroll first.
But as above, if a plasterer is considered messy by there customers, then they aren't a good plasterer in my opinion.
