[Closed] Any mechanics about? Opinion needed...
Have a Touran TDi DSG, 7 years old with 103k. Was driving earlier and put my foot down in third and heard a pop from under the bonnet. Now engine is pretty noisy and have no power at all just enough to drive the car at speed limit. Any ideas what this could be? Fingers crossed its not going to be too expensive...
Can't smell any smokey or burning smells.
Turbooooo!
Sounds like turbo.
Brace yourself.
Ooo, bend over. That's going to hurt!
Got a spare turbo for a Diahatsu Fourtrak in the shed. Not sure it'll fit though as that went on a mans engine (2.8td)
It could in theory be a hose or something.
Turbo normally results in black smoke, unless the MAF is detecting that there's less air going in and is not fuelling it up. As for the extra noise - not sure. So there's a chance it's not the turbo.
turbo hose prob popped off somewhere go and have a look with a torch
if the turbo has really gone expect lots of smoke and some very metallic, expensive sounding noises
Ooooff!
The Turbo on my 2005 1.9 Diesel Touran blew on Saturday in a cloud of smoke. My car has done just over 70k miles. Dealer wants ยฃ2200 to replace both the Turbo and the Cat. An independent (Bosch Service Network) garage has quoted less than ยฃ1300 for the same work using a new (not refurb)Turbo Technics Turbo. Is this worth the ยฃ900 saving or should play safe and get the dealer to do it?

If your lucky, its the exhaust side of the turbo and the bits won't need fishing out of the engine.
Sounds like a boost hose has popped off at a joint, they are push fit with a horseshoe wire clip that rots away.
Does sound like a pipe has come adrift or split.
If you don't fancy having a look yourself, yellow pages for local garage in the "Good Garage Scheme".
Tell them look but you want a quote before you agree to any work being carried out.
Check the rubber turbo pipes. Start at the turbo and work your way round. Not familiar with the Touran but will probably work down to the front bottom of the engine to the intercooler and back up to the inlet manifold. If your lucky it's just a clip that's come off.
Thanks chaps. Turns out a pipe around the back of the turbo had split, now fixed by local garage.
And relaxxx.
