Gay box is a small set of shelves, that interlock similar to a crossword puzzle grid if that makes sence,can be disassembled, made one once in school before gay was an accepted word for something else,oh how thing change.
is it anything like a lemon party?

My mother had a Gay Box in the early 1960's. It was as "Project" describes, a small compartmentalised, slatted, wooden shelf unit which hung on a wall in our house onto which she placed miniature ceramic figures as manufactured by Disney, Wade etc. This was long before gay became to mean anything other than happy or brightly coloured, and I remember them as being relatively common then.
I just bought one second-hand recently for old times sake.
