So, old oven died yesterday - fan made a strange noise then stopped and then no heat or oven light but led timer still worked. Checked voltage at fused connector and 235v. New oven purchased this afternoon - wired back into block connector - fan works on oven but no oven light and it is not heating up. Have I just got a dud oven (Smeg)or am I missing something else.

Silly question - have you set the time?

Mine only works when it's got the time set.

Normally they need the clock set as wwaswas said. Does it have an "auto" mode (probably not if there's no clock)? What is strange is that if it was faulty I'd expect either the light to not work or the oven not to heat up but not both.
