My daughter had her laptop stolen during a burglary ten days ago. The thieving scumbag didn't even take the power lead for it, so no doubt the laptop is now in a bin somewhere. It's upsetting to see my daughter the victim of a pointless crime and seeing the effect it has had on her.  Thankfully all her work is backed up so none of her Uni work is lost, but we do need to replace it sooner than the insurance is likely to pay up.

The laptop doesn't need to anything special, something for writing assignments and watching Netflix. She wants something no bigger than 14 inches and it has to be Windows. We have a budget of around £300. There is a lot out there but I'd appreciate some help if any of you have seen some good deals.

Could they cope with a 15" screen?

This seems fairly decent

I bought a couple of refurbished Dell Latitude 5310 (‘series 5’, 13 inch, 10th gen i5, 8GB, 256GB SSD, FHD touch screens) for my GCSE and A Level kids from these guys and they’re fantastic. Excellent condition, decent battery, and 20% off with an eBay code so £266 per device. https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/mydigitaltechmdt

There’s a few refurbished ones on the Dell website that look pretty good value

I’ve had Dell Refurb store in the past but the links above for eBay / MDT above better value for money unless you get a big Dell discount like they occasionally offer appear to be offering right now

Another vote for a refurb Dell. Picked up a lightly used 5320 a couple of months back for £300 and it's spot on for most stuff.

Point on these Dell refurbs is they’re business laptops (Latitudes) so well built with higher quality components than their low cost consumer equivalents.

Dell do a student discount aswell. Atleast they did when I got mine.

So much better than anything new at the same price.

Have a look at tier1online.com they do refurbished business PCs with some good deals if you're willing to flex a bit on the quality, even the non-pristine ones are in good condition lots win11 compatible not just old junk

The stolen laptop is four years old, not sure the same PSU would fit? One to bear in mind though.

Yeah I buy Dell Refurbs cos we have adapters all over the house. Current stuff usually USB-C which whilst not being compatible is at least a standard.
