MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Hi all.
We are looking at having a carpet laid in a room that currently has a vinyl plank floor with the skirting fitted on top.
As such there is a gap of between 8-10mm between the floor and the skirting board.
Will this be an issue at all ?
Carpet is quite thick pile
Cheers
Steve.
The fitters will nail gripper rods right round, about an inch from the skirting them push the edges in and trap them so no, the carpet should fill the gap but if your house is old lots of air will bleed out under the skirtings and if you live in a town atmospheric dirt will get trapped in the edges of the carpet slowly making them dirty.
If that bothered you, you could tape the gap closed before the fitters come.

Sweeping generalisation much? My house is old. A shiny penny to any air bleeding out from skirtings. Not physically possible due to the construction.
It's a fair warning but it's not a case of it "will" happen. . May dependant on the house construction
Depending on the wall/sub-floor construction, carpet edges can get dirty where there is a draft under skirting. If I was worried about it, I’d probably either mastic the gap or squirt a load of expanding foam in and knife it flush with the skirting.
If your carpet is foam or rubber backed gripper rods wont be needed, used to use a spray adhesive around the edges,i dont know about nowadays but a layer of thin cardboard underneath stopped the backing sticking to the floor, came in rolls called padfelt.
If you could get a small sample of the carpet try it under the skirts to get an idea.
