Did the fronts yesterday, piece of cake.

Got the rear caliper off, disconnected handbrake, but can't retract the piston to get the new pads in

Quick google says they WIND back in, not push, with possibly a left hand thread on the nearside

Tried winding, no use. It turns OK, but it's not retracting.

Thoughts/Help?

Thnks! 🙂

If it is like my Mk3 Mondeo was. Push (lean hard) on the piston as you wind it.

you [s]need[/s] a tool peter tis much much easier - i fannied about for a day trying to bodge it , bought the tool , finished it within half hour.

you need to rotate and push at the same time,

does left hand too

if you can live without left hand then the laser one will do it fine.

see if you can borrow so

You can get piston rewind tools, had to get one for a toyota not so long ago, think it came with a variety of fittings, ford included.... easy with the right tool, dont think I'd fancy forcing it back without

Done

You don't need a special tool at all 🙂

It all makes sense now. One google result mentioned some needle nosed pliers in the 2 holes in the piston, but I couldn't work out why.
Pliers in
Push
Turn
Sorted!

Thanks guys! STW beats google again!

Love ya! 🙂

Good stuff. No need for a tool if the piston isn't stuck.

I'd used the wind-back tool(borrowed) method and used the "lean-on-the-piston-and-turn-it" method on the Mondeo. The latter was actually quicker.
