Ideally somewhere near South Wales, but not an absolute must.

I am interested in having an immense 'log cabin' built: something along the lines of a 20m x 10m log pergola with an apex roof, and sides either enclosed with glass that can be removed or slid out of the way, or some sort of solution that would allow it to be open on nice days, or enclosed during (the more usual) stormy days. A strong, marquee-type vinyl might also work for this.

It would need no services (such as plumbing or electricity), and a floor would be dependant on cost and planning.

Would such a thing be feasible, or just a pipe dream?

Lots of this kind of thing readily available pre-designed.  They don't usually have open sides though, but they often have a big porch in the American sense.

@molgrips: Replacing the tent MrsGrips secured for the college with something permanent. It's just an idea.

Just erect a steel portal frame agricultural shed. I put up a 20m x 10 m several years ago. Would easily be the cheapest option. If you wanted a more natural structure then look at the timber framed buildings from Farmplus. A bit more expensive but a little bit nicer environment I think

The FarmPlus buildings are fantastic, welshfarmer. They give me all sorts of ideas for the space I am thinking about.
