Any Aintree - Liverpool - Grand National experts around?

Random question where I could do with some local knowledge.

For reasons I still don't fully understand, Mrs S and I are going to the Grand National next weekend. It's a work thing with hospitality etc. I don't really agree with, or understand, horsey racing but thats another discussion. To make the weekend more worthwhile, I'm hatching a plan to go and see James play at M&S Bank Arena in the evening. I'm just a bit concerned about logistics.

We have got parking at Aintree so that is sorted. We are staying at the Premier Inn in Aintree so that is sorted. Looks like we will be done at the horses around 5.30pm so need to walk back to the hotel, get changed then get into Liverpool, ideally for around 7.30pm. Will the whole area be rammed with people, will there be any public transport, will it be possible to get a taxi? I've never been to the event or the area so am pretty clueless and reluctant to spaff money on concert tickets if we are going to be gridlocked and unable to get to the venue or back again after.

Thanks

If you're going to truly enter into the spirit of going to the horses at Aintree then, particularly if you're on a jolly, you'll be paraletic by 5.30 anyway.

I wouldn't try and get in and out of town in a hurry as it'll be mental busy! I remember being in Liverpool working on the day of the National and trying to get back to mancester at aroun 5.30 and it was crazy! It's a great day out BTW. Why not get your other half to don a particularly revealing outfit so she might make it into the Daily Mail's annual "oh my god, look at all these frightful northerners!!' feature 🤣

If you are planning to head back into town from the Premier inn (I assume premier inn north) I’d walk to Old Roan station and get the train to moorfields or central and walk to the arena from there.
Getting on at Old Roan you’re getting in before Aintree so will be less busy at point of boarding. I’d get the train back as well, but get an uber from station to hotel late on.

Just be aware if it is premier in north you’re 1.5 miles from Aintree and it’s not the nicest walk, dual carriage ways most the way.

Is there an Aintree prem inn?  As above if its 'north Liverpool'  you're not walking to the races from there.

(I'm there currently as visiting the MIL.  Say Hi to Paula in the Packet Steamer, she looks after us at breakfast beautifully)

It is that one. The walk doesn’t look nice and it is kind of long but on street view it does look that there are pavement options all the way.

There are.  It 'can' be walked,  but I'm thinking your wife in heels,  you in smart shoes,  both dressed nicely and perhaps having had a glass of bubbly....  really,  don't walk unless you've comfy shoes and like a good leg stretch.
