I had my anxiety dream again last night and woke up in a right state. My dream is that I have to sit my degree final exams without having done any preparation. It is always the same dream, the only difference is how long I have to prepare. This can be anything from 6 weeks (mild panic) to 5 minutes (cold sweat sat bolt upright in bed).

In real life I sat my finals in 1992 and I passed.

If something as innocuous as this can bother me 26 years later I’d hate to think what PTSD is like.

Premature examination is a common problem that affects lots of men your age.

"In real life I sat my finals in 1992'

If only your future self was able to tell you that right there and then you were literally 'living the dream'

🙂

Although given that was actually real life you had no excuse for the whole 'not wearing any trousers' thing

I know I'm getting stressed because I dream that my cat has grown to the size of a tiger and can talk and sits me down to tell me what a lousy owner I've been.

My anxiety dream is being abandoned in a bus station by my missus!

My anxiety dream normally  involves disposing of a corpse in forest. The corpse is unidentified and it's unclear if I killed it or not. It's usually so vivid I feel uneasy for days afterwards, waiting for the police to come round!

My genuine anxiety dream, that i've had since I was a little kid, is that I unexpectedly find that I've developed the ability to fly.

I'll zoom around the garden, a few feet above the ground, having a great time,  I go a little higher, maybe 8 or 10 feet  and whizz up and down the street, just above the cars. As I get more and more confident I go higher and higher and further away from home.

I reach a point where i've had enough and decide to head back  but, when I try to descend, I find that I can't. The harder I try to go down, the higher in the sky I rise until i'm lost in the grey clouds and utter panic sets in.

It's horrible.

I am being chased by a bloke who looks like a ventriloquists dummy and he can burrow underground by pressing down hard on the top of his own head, his front garden is full of mole hills from his previous trips.

I don't get them generally but I had a few in my mid 20s where I ended up having to go back to my secondary school for something, along with some of my old schoolmates, and we had to wear school uniforms for some reason.  And then had to go to lessons.. school sucked me back in.  Horrific that was.

I have the same recurring dream! Sometimes it's a levels sometimes degree I got good results in both. A more recent development in my dream I'm sitting the exams and have done no study whatsoever but I'm totally carefree about it because I know that I've gone on to be a self employed gardener and didn't need any qualifications and i'm so happy to being at uni but without the stress!

Have also had the exam-tomorrow-but-no-study done numerous times. No idea why it’s an anxiety dream as that’s how I went through much of uni anyway. 🙂

Used to but not in recent years have one where I was the last person left in my secondary school, all doors had been locked from the outside while a tiger roamed loose. That one properly used to shit me up.

The third was being stuck at the end of my road naked (cul-de-sac where we lived right at the other end) and having to urgently get home while every other child on the road played outside and all the adults were having some kind of street party. No one ever had street parties in Ireland  😬

Theyre almost worth it for the beautiful feeling of relief when you wake up and realise it’s not all really happening.

I've got a good repertoire of anxiety dreams. I have the exam dream, too. Also realising I have an essay to write, haven't attended class and don't know where to start. Occasionally dream about aeroplanes losing control and crashing, too. Oh, and there's my (dead) dad appearing in dreams like last night. As a kid, it was standing next to a kitchen counter that the dog was under, behind a curtain. Some meat was thrown down on the floor for her and she'd snarl out and bite me.
