Only happens on my Mtb or rather I should say it hurts more on my mtb. On the Road bike its more of a dull ache which Ialso get if im sat down with my knees bent or going upstairs.
But tonight I was in agony everytime I reached the top of my pedal stroke. Feels like behind my patella is being squashed by a vice.
I've tried different seat heights, spinning in easier gears, moving the seat forwards and back. Had a bike fit for both MTB and Road and still pain.
It crunches when I bend down and throbs. I was trying to avoid going to a Orthopod. But think I may have to.
Mountain bike is 18 inch (Medium) And I'm 5ft 10.
I initially thought Chondromalacia.
Go see a physio.
This kinda describes what I've got at the momment a "behind the knee cap" thing. In the modern way I self diagnosed myself with the internet and most of what I read about knee problems had somewhere in it:
Stop what you are doing to cause the pain - Let it rest etc etc
So I've laid off the bike for only a few weeks so far and feels better already. Been swimming and stuff instead. Kept it warm with a knee support that had the knee cap bit cut out (fromsports direct) at all other times.
It's shit cos I'm not riding my trail bike but a few hours DH at the weekend didnt hurt so I'm gona give it a few more weeks without any hard pedalling and see how I do..
I'd certainly recommend the stop whats hurting it bit though....
In the same boat. Was uncomfortable even walking. It's finally easing up after a month off the bike. Got a physio appt in a few weeks to see what's what
I find it hurts more if I go on a very rocky descent on one of my routes. My Mileage this week has been no different to normal. Less infact.
It Hurts going upstairs everyday, but the mtb seems to exacerbate it further.
Been diagnosed as a Sprained knee. Awaiting a MRI Scan next week to see if there is any other damage. Been told to rest it and ice it also. Now swollen badly from yesterday.
Also been referred to Orthopaedics the same guy who did my Arthroscopy on my other knee.
Don't know why I having such bad luck with my joints. Fractured Fibula, ligament Strain and torn Meniscus in 2013 (left knee) And ruptured achillies tendon right leg 2014 and now this.
On the upside my left leg feels perfect, and achilies feels good after surgery.
Patella tendonopathy?
Can very sucseptible to saddle height as I found out recently.
Fortunately I have rested enough to solve the problem and raising my saddle (not by much) seems to have worked.
I had the same, started to hurt like heck whilst pedalling on one ride in Wales. GP diagnosed tendentious & rest. After two weeks I rode and it hurt again straight away. GP said more rest. Did the same and more pain on next ride. Went to see a PROPER physio (private & recommended not thru GP) who said I had bent hips. In two half hour visits he unbent my hips, told me to go ride straight away and knee has been fine ever since.
They seem to think I've twisted it which does sound right as I nearly came a cropper last night and stuck my leg out to stop me falling and it hurt initially and then the pain went away for 10 mins then got progressively worse as I was pedalling. High or low gears.
So maybe I was having issues with and I've just made it worse by nearly having a crash.
