Being woken up with a nice hot cup of tea

being tipped in your crutch

I think, (and I stand to be corrected as I'm making this up) that a hot start is when the engine has been previously run up to temperature and not cooled down. So that as you prime the cylinders to start, some of the fuel being used to prime end up contacting the hot exhaust, causing the flames.

Mk.IX (could be a XVI, can't see the cowl through the flame) and a MK.I or Mk.II , then a Mk.XIX
