18 months into a 24 month contract on a Desire. I'm getting the calls from Vodafone (so far unanswered) so I'm guessing they are looking to get me on to something else.
I do like the phone, though I'm now getting the overheating/battery life problem.

Of the current crop, which HTC would be the one to move to - battery life being a high priority?

My wife's Desire Z battery lasts a good few days which is quite a long time for an Android phone I think.

Battery life a high priority on a smartphone 😐
I have a Galaxy S II and bought an Anker 1900 mah battery for it off amazon and although battery life is much improved its still no Nokia 1100...
Sensation or Galaxy S II and you are on to a winner, I prefer the GSII though (hence why I got one).

Yup Galaxy S2 here, awesome device and with a bit of tweaking easily 2 days plus out of a charge.

Those calls might not be to upgrade. I had same, turned out they were trying to flog me an iPad (at much cheapness, but with a £30/month data contract!)

slight hijack- how is the GPS on the Galaxy S2? i'm 15 months into an 18 month contract, currently using a Galaxy S, and i'm fed up of the flaky GPS (taking ages to get a lock, losing its connection, wildly inaccurate etc etc).

xherbivorex - I had a galaxy s and upgraded to the s2. A lot quicker and the camera with flash sold it to me. HD video as well. 8)

Mine does that too - but doesnt cause a problem.

Best deal: after contract expiry.

I went Desire > Sensation.

Of note is, if it's overheating it's a motherboard problem and warranty-fixable.

I got the Sensation for £100 quid, Fonebanked the (repaired) Desire for £140 quid, and got a cheaper contract. YMMV.

Cougar, how did you manage that? Can you let me know the details please? Desire owner here - it works but I appear to be at limits of space with very little on it...thanks.

if you look at the S2 against the sensation in the metal (or IMHO flimsy plastic in the case of the S2), it makes choosing a bit easier

Over heating is a general "feature" of modern smart phones. I am on my 5th android phone and all got a little warm when under high load. Most commonly during GPS use.

The issue with your desire could be helped with a new battery. Or, as you are coming up on upgrade, get a new phone.

HTC sensation or GSII are both awsome.

Cash back was recycling at Fonebank; Sensation was on contract from O2.

Getting warm is, yes; overheating, crashing and rebooting is a specific problem with certain Desire mobos.

Space issues on a Desire is a separate conversation.

Another vote for the Galaxy S2, brilliant phone. Re GPS, its vastly improved over the Galaxy S. I use endomondo for GPS tracking when out riding and its flawless.

galaxy s2 here with the official samsung 2000mah battery and cover - keeps the phone thin and with it rooted and stripped of bloatware i can get 3 days + with moderate to heavy use (bluetooth, wifi and gps on all the time)

Depending on how brave you are with installing firmware, DarkyRom version 9.5 has completely fixed (ho ho) this for me.

I recommend a Sony-Ericsson Xperia Arc, if only because it'll be cheaper than an S2 and the only thing you'll miss out on is a dual-core processor.
It is also smaller & easier to hold than the Sensation/Galaxy S2 phones, but has the same size screen.

im loving my desire HD. im actually out of contract in a couple of days and had voda ringing offering decent deals, but theres nowt i want to swap it for. i went into phone shop looking at sensation XE and XL and yep they looked nice enough. did a bit of googling at home and found they seem flawed in a few ways, so current phone seems best option for me still.
for those with crap battery life (which was me too) ive rooted it, currently running ARHD and battery lifes now great too.
gonna move to sim only with giffgaff.
