A friend of mine is getting married and during a discussion down the pub at lunch said he is sworn to secrecy over the song for the first dance.

We then spent half an hour trying to guess the song but to no avail.

Its by a mid nineties indie band, who had a couple of hits, are not particularly famous, the song is a lovey one, and the band are called The "someting", and the something begins with a consonanta and is one word, and the band are probably british.

Any ideas, answer to be revealed 20th December if i dont guess it

Isn't the La's song actually about injecting smack?

How romantic ๐Ÿ˜‰

I read a book a few years ago about the band, and it interviewed some of them. In it one of the guitarists simply said "It's not about drugs"

Seems reasonably clear to me...

When asked about the rumour in 1995, the group's bassist John Power replied, "I don't know. Truth is, I don't wanna know. Drugs and madness go hand in hand. People who you've known all your life... they're steady, then they're not. But you can't ponder, 'cause it kills you, la.

[shrugs/]

pointless, there's not enough info. most indie bands were called "The [something]" and operated in the mid-nineties, and had one or two hits, one of which was always a bit slow...

The Verve? The Charlatans? The *gag* Stereophonics? The Bluetones?

The Waterboys? "Whole of the Moon" or somesuch? [edit] just realised that this is actually an 80s song - makes me feel old!

Just ask for silence for the first dance, on our wedding vid you cannot hear the tune due to all my in laws friends freeloading with the booze and talking through it. Well pissed off at the time.

American options include The Calling, or The GooGoo Dolls, Black balloon is a good one, thats another song about heroin use.
