I seem to have developed an ankle injury playing football. Landed funny.

Seems to be taking a bloomin long time to go away, I've still being playing football weekly and the odd cycle ride though 😆

It only hurts if twisted slightly or weight is put on it.

Anyone experience similar? Guess its probably only muscular. How long should it take to sort roughly?

More likely ligaments than muscles

find a physio and do lots of the recommended exercise is my advice

my ankles are ****ed from repeated sprains when I was younger - you lose the fine positional sensation in the joint so easier to sprain next time. Balance boards were recommended a while ago but I've no idea what really works.

I can't wear stilettos any more 🙁

Physio?... That's crazy talk. Seek out some good old homeopathic cures

I thought I badly sprained my ankle playing football at 15.

It took months to heel and still gave me gyp for a couple of years and even now my ankle can go black and ache.

I broke my heel several years ago and when X-rayed the radiologist asked did I know I had broken my ankle.
I replied that's why am here aren't i, she said no you have Broken your heel today but the X-ray shows an old break that was displaced and healed badly and I should speak to the doctors about fixing it.

I spoke to the doctor who said you have managed ok on it for the last 14years so forget about it .

So if you have the time I would get it xrayed. Mats will be quickest but get the hump if you have not injured it in last couple of days ( I found out when I presented my self with a fractured wrist I had done 6 days earlier).

Went over on my ankle on a straight, flat path last Summer, kept on walking. By mid-afternoon it swelled up looking like half a tennis ball lodged under the skin, the swelling went down but it took four months before it felt normal. I didn't have physio on it but did stretches every day and kept the joint moving whilst sat down. Really annoying to walk on, but thankfully didn't affect pedaling a bike - though I was very wary of rides that might necessitate walking any distance if the bike had a mechanical.

As a skateboarder I have been plagued by ankle injuries for the last 20 years.

Rest and exercise is the best thing you can do. stop playing football for 4-6 weeks if you actually want it to get better. Go see a physio! they will give you a big elastic band and some balance work to do. The reaction and feelings do come back.
