Had an argument with a fella last wknd in the car..
Driving home on Sunday afternoon along the main road towards our house. Lovely day, windows down, singing away to the radio. Heading towards a sharp left bend in the main road and about 50yds before the bend is a lovely 14 plate volvo facing me, half on pavement half on road, with both rear doors open.
I can see someones feet as they are getting out the car on the roadside so naturally slow down as I need to overtake into oncoming lane. As I close in on the car its light flash 10+ times rapidly. So now I almost slow to a stop as I'm not sure if he is alerting me to something. At this point a 40ish yr old bloke jumps out and starts going mental screaming "how dare you **** stick your fingers up at me, my elderly dad was getting out, * you, etc etc!"
As my windows were already down I told him to wait there while I parked up. Got out. He squared up to me still screaming. I explain he needs his eyes tested and he is making a tit of himself in front of his parents, 2 infant kids and wife, and he is bang out of order. At this point wife is screaming "its not worth it etc etc". He gets back in his car and screeches off. Me and elderly parents are stood on pavement at this point bamboozled. I just shook my head and got back in car.
Anyway.. Long and short of it is I'm going to view the house next door tomorrow morning! Looks like a really nice place. Question is, should I let this weapons grade cap end influence things?!
should I let this weapons grade cap end influence things
yep.
Anyway.. Long and short
Too late.
When he opens the door up, stick your fingers up at him and see how apoplectic he goes 🙂
<I'm assuming you didn't actually do it last time, so the response this time should be visible from Space>
There's a lot of very stressed people around atm
... I imagine he was very sensitive about it as he's the sort of person who gets really wound up when he has to wait for elderly people to get out of a car...
Were you picking your nose at the time?
Wait so you know the neighbour's a bit of a **** and you're viewing anyway?
Life's too short for crap neighbours...
his house or his parents?
Just to clarify: argument was a week ago and house only came on market 2 days ago... And the angry gentleman is not next door it is his elderly parents. Still not ideal.
Before the house came on the market everytime I drove past I was hoping to see him so I could beep and stick my fingers up at him while I drove past!
Don't think I was picking my nose (although not outside the realms of possibility) but may have been energetically tapping the steering wheel to Block Rockin' Beats! 😀
I'd buy the house just to wind him up. His head will likely explode on the first day anyway so...
Id buy it and paint a mural on the side of the house with a finger giving the salute!
I see an opportunity for revenge here, buy the house ingratiate yourself with his elderly parents and then pop round fro a neighbourly chat everytime he's there, clearly that'll wind him up evenmore or he will apologise for being a knob... provided the house is worth it of course.
Edit - sorry I now realise this is far too mature and sensible for STW, so buy the house and flick him the v's everytime he vists, making sure his parents can't see you... just like you used to do when your brother* was getting row from your mum (*insert sibling of suitable type)
I think if you even need to ask yourself this question you're possibly as mental as he seems to be.
Ha! Some quality suggestions up there ^^^ 😀
Looks like the consensus is sod him and go for it if we like the house!
Once his parents are in a home/deceased he'll probably move in to their house.
Don't forget to fashion some appropriate topiary.
Weeksy - Why is it mental to be considering the impact of a nasty argument upon the relationship with potential neighbours?
Weeksy - Why is it mental to be considering the impact of a nasty argument upon the relationship with potential neighbours?
It's not, it's mental to even be considering viewing the house under the circumstances. IMO anyway. Last thing I'd want in this world is neighbours who are likely to kick off at a moments notice.
Cheers for clarifying weeksy - I just wasn't sure which side of the fence you were sat on!
So he drove off... leaving the elderly parents behind. From that, I'd presume the elderly parents lived there and he was just giving them a lift home.
So does it matter if your neighbours have a mad son?
I'm with Weeksy on this.
Lots of houses without sons/son in laws who'll be round shouting as soon as they perceive a problem affecting their parents.
You want neighbours you can talk to in a reasonable way.
I blame the parents.
If he's a twunt, there's every possibility his parents are too.
Id buy it and paint a mural on the side of the house with a finger giving the salute!
Or if you want to take it one step further...

Mind you, even if he forgives you and you become pals, his wife will still always hate you.

I dunno. My parents are quite nice.
put in an offer at asking price
withdraw the day before contracts
That'll learn him 😀
Once his parents are in a home/deceased he'll probably move in to their house
But if the OP moves in then ingratiates himself in with the parents, keeping them company, doing odd jobs etc... he can slowly poison their minds against the son, and talk them in to leaving the house to him. The son will be blissfully ignorant of all this until the day of probate when he's called into the lawyers office, to find the OP sitting across the table from him giving him the finger. Again.
MwahahahHAHAHAHAHAH!
I dunno. My parents are quite nice.
🙂
I'd buy it if it was obviously the best house for me. Would they remember you anyway?

would be my concern...
I fear they probably will remember me. 6ft fat lad with a skinhead shouting a their tosser of a son in broad daylight..
Maybe visit them and see how they are. Maybe bring cake.
what did he say when you said 'I wasn't sticking my fingers up, what are you on about?'
<Reasonable mode on> It's quite possible that the guy is actually ok. If the parents were taking a while getting out of the car and the house is being sold it's quiet likely they're getting too old to look after themselves and they're moving into sheltered housing or a home. This isn't actually much fun for the siblings who have to work all this through and deal with the fact their parents prob aren't going to be around much longer... so he could have been having a pretty bad day and totally misinterpreted whatever sign you were giving OP <Reasonable mode off>
This is sounding more and more like it could be the plotline of some random comedy from the 1980s.
Don't even think about it!
Horrible neighbours can have a real impact on your quality of life. You have had a really lucky break.
Fate has tipped you off run and don't look back.
Ever.
Unless the house is really nice.

I think the house being sold is not the one this guys parents live in - it's the one next door? They would be the OP's neighbours if he did purchase.
Update
As I expected house is perfect.. We've viewed a fair few and we're both rather picky, me more so. Huge room sizes and more importantly a workshop extension on the back of the already big man cave for bikes and tools! Plus it's chain free (as are we) and we're getting booted out of current rental in 6 weeks.
GF doesn't GAS about my argument with Mr Angry so we're just going to go for it... Sod him and his rage. Hopefully he's realised he was in the wrong by now (wishful thinking). If not I'll happily engage in Round 2 of the 'should've gone to specsavers' debate!
Wonder why it's so reasonably priced though?
If you want WW3 then sure move in.
The guy is a prat or mentally ill.
Let it go life is too short.
Let it go? The house has a workshop!! If I could persuade my wife to let me move to a house with a double garage I'd be in heaven.
Nick, go for it.
buy the house get him in to cycling join stw and then lets see his version 😀
Just be thankfull he wasnt the owner of a land rover Evoque.

As would I! If numbnuts insists on being an arse, just ignore him, his head will probably explode with frustration!
Buy it. Move in. Go straight over to his house, remind him how you'd met before and offer to settle there and then on the front lawn 😀
Does the house need a new patio laying? 😉
When you move in just go round to say hello.
If that doesn't work out let the wife do you fighting.
Ha! Some quality STW recommendations once again. You can always rely on this place for the full spectrum of responses! 😀
Thinking logically, there is no reason why the son of next door would want to create aggro given that his elderly parents are the ones who have to live next door to me, not him.
I noticed there was a gate in the back garden between then two properties - think I might use it to pop into their back garden if he's ever around!
Anyway - offer accepted so its going ahead. Worst comes to worst I'll let the GF be the usual PR rep for the neighbours.
Oh, and there is already a nice patio - be a shame to rip up and put a new one down..
What's that Richard Pryor film where he moves next door to a complete psycho? I feel the op could be going for the live performance here.
When you give him the bird just make sure you use the right finger.
