This principle is what the majority of 'political correctness' is based on.
There are people employed specifically to decide who should be offended and by what, then issue orders to the rest of us that we're not allowed to say z, y and z because it might cause offence (to people who have not even been asked if x, y or z actually would offend them).
It's a subtle part of the state controlling what we're allowed to think or say.
Similarly, H&S has been hijacked to become a subtle system for controlling our actions and movements.
It's all the thin end of a wedge.

Sorry to hear it's been going so crap mate, hope the new computer has helped you fix things.
FWIW, you're not on your own... Spent much of the last few months wondering where "it all went wrong" myself for one reason or another. Of the 4 ex GF's I have (2 very serious, 2 less so), both the serious ones are currently about 6 months pregnant (and one has just got married), of the other two one has just got engaged I think and the other is getting married in 3 weeks... Only just over 12 months ago I was in a well paid job, with the girl of my dreams (or so I thought), living what was turning out to be quite a good existence. One or two small changes, and anything can happen...
But the same works the other way too, one or two small changes is often all that's needed to put things back up where they should be!
