In my nearest town Jessops has been outlived by two independent camera shops. I suspect this is repeated up and down the land which makes no logical sense considering Jessop superior buying power. The business model/ product just had to be wrong. I guess they were the Halfords/bikehuts of the camera world.

Aaah Jessops of Leicester. Misty eyed memories of their single shop when I first got into photography in the early 80's. That was when Blacks in Cambridge were a pukka outdoor shop selling (and understanding) proper tech climbing gear as well.

So the model of many shops/global domination dunt always work. Watch out Cotswold.... (at the time above, they had a single shop in South Cerney and their embryonic mail order service was going head to head with the then pukka Field & Trek).

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/jessops-calls-in-the-administrators

£800,000 of outstanding gift vouchers, lots of very frustrated Xmas pressy recipients. Heard a guy on 5Live who got 500 quids worth the night before administration was announced, drove straight to his local store to be told tough. Gutting.

Have they got a buyer for all the product then, given there was no fire sale and its all going "back to a warehouse" according to the news, or getting returned to the suppliers?

If it was me and I worked for them a few of the high end stuff would not make the warehouse, they will get f-all redundancy from the government

collected from the shops and taken to a warehouse, where it would be returned to suppliers.

The 2 I went passed today were packed, had a look in as been fancier a new DSLR for ages. Fair price on the on I wanted with a free tripod too, there was a customer with her DSLR setup chatting to a young lad about lenses and what settings they like. I didn't buy one in the end as too close to Xmas post spend and I really shouldn't anyway.

The group last year also suffered the loss of its chief executive Trevor Moore, who left to head up HMV, as well as its chairman David Adams.

Explains part of it, he's done HMC some great favours too.

You are so ugly that you're barred from bike shops across the land? Wow, that's harsh 🙁

Yes 😥

Enough about the other thread though. Seriously, how is it possible to be so ugly that you can't go shopping? Can't you just deploy a bag?

Feel for the staff at Jessops but thats all. In Harrogate they moved their shop to within 20mtrs of a good independent, (Bass & Bligh) about a year ago, mebbe less. I'm sure Jessops would've been happy if B&B had closed down.
I've only ever used Bass & Bligh as it happens, great service.
