I think this place needs one before it becomes singlebraincellworld. I don't mind people having differing opinions, but they should at least be able to put together a coherent argument and then be able to defend that in a consistent, logical and sensible manner!!!!! (That's a hint there in my punctuation as to what I'm referring to).

You sir, should be the proud owner of a few days ban for deliberately trolling... that should give you enough time to reflect on just how clever you are!!!!

Thank you CM, it was a fairly poor rant (not troll) in the first place, only the one mistake 😉

Virtually every thread quickly becomes an argument - not great and puts me off using the site.

So as to come out of this not looking a total arse, I'm going to be clearer. It is the likes of djmb and akysurf coming out with mis-informed, half-baked, over-simplified garbage on the teachers' strike thread that was really starting to cheese me off. I didn't want to mention names and get in to a slanging match, but there you go :\

akysurf deserves a prize for tenacity, the thread died a couple of days ago and through hard work and sweat was able to breath a new life into it, even ernie thought it had died, now look at it.

I manage to sneak a short chat into it, it didn't affect it at all. It's become like an oil tanker.

I felt guilty about chatting on a thread. Then remembered what the rest of the thread was like.

Were/are you are Durham too?

Oh Lordy! I just read through some of that thread to see what had gotten you all worked up.

Whilst I'm far more inclined to agree with you about the filter now, as there is some idiotic nonsense on there, I'm worried about how it might catch out the 'intelligent' who try and reason with fools...

Personally I ignore that sort of thing from the start.

Ha !. I deliberatly avoided the teacher thread thingy.

I could feeeeel that it was going to be one of those threads.

Does that make me a full Jedi now ?.

Light saber please.

Ah, now you see this isn't a very intelligent idea.

Who sets the intelligence filter? I imagine some people's desired filter level would block 85% of the forum. And who's to say their filter level is wrong?

😉

Nah, I don't think so Solo... it just means you're rational enough to realise the futility of arguing on the internet.

It takes about two of those threads to work out who you agree with politically. After that you just let ernie, Junky and Uncle Jez smash their heads into a bloody pulp against a wall expressing that view, freeing up more time to find opportunities to talk about yourself.

Actually, by 'middle class types' I meant those who now think they're middle class because they live in a 'good' area, have a 'good' job and think they're well off.

You know the type, they work in the private bank where Papa keeps the family silver (and the rest...)

Next weekend then, pie-oh! Chin chin.

Do you actually know anyone in this position? More to the point do they post on STW?

The OP's posts are making this thread appear on ironometers as far away as Mozambique. Someone just tweeted me from there to ask what was going on.
