As a family we subscribe to New Scientist from time to time and really like it but usually after a while they start to get unread and then it's time to stop and change. So, what else could we be looking at as alternatives?

Scientific American is v. good - it's a big step up, though.

Razzle?

Weren't you listening? They want a family publication - Incest Monthly would be a better choice.

Edit: Or bi-monthly, if your family is of that persuasion.

Seriously though.. not sure what age your family are but the BBC Focus magazine is quite accessible:

And for younger kids (6-11) I've heard good things about https://www.whizzpopbang.com/

tx GrahamS. 14 -> mid 50s 🙂

I'll take a look at the beeb stuff and Scientific American. The OT was good but prefer the remake

I love Wired and have since it started but to be honest I started reading New Scientist at school when it was largely black and white with a blue logo. It must be at least 50 yrs ago.
Hmm. Just realised Sgt. Pepper must be 50 yrs old this year...

Feels old but goes to listen to it anyway.

The mag I get from the Institute of Physics is pretty good, I think you can view old copies online.

How about some of the science podcasts out there too. I listen to the Naked Scientists every week and they are pretty good*. There are quite a few others to choose from.

*except maybe the one I did for them 🙂

If you're into podcasts, No Such Thing As A Fish is a hoot while being very informative. Potentially a bit risqué!
