Looks like we can't get Virgin cos wer'e not in a fibre optic zone apparently, so what's BT like? My Mrs has to have movies & I really want ESPN. It's a minefield I don't understand (being old & stuff) so any advice would be welcome.
Some scouse bird from Sky (or Liverpool) rang tonight & asked me for my bank details so she could renew the Sky contract, we already pay by DD so why would she ask for them? (& I'm sure I heard a kid squawking in the background!) anyway, she didn't get our details.
Advice/tips anyone?

My sister has BT, and is delighted with both the content and the savings!

And I'm glad you didn't give your bank details out - unquestionably a scam. Good job.

One of my interests is North American Ice Hockey (apart from MTBing, sea fishing, & wildlife watching) which is why i want ESPN!
Thanks for the 'advice' though.

Get some hobbies/interests

TV and other hobbies / interests aren't mutually exclusive you know.

If you want ESPN - stick with Sky

Virgin & Sky are the only real options for sports & movies

You have to be careful with those callers 'calling on behalf of Sky' - they will be tricking you into buying a third-party breakdown cover or the like - you did right not to tell her any details.

agreed, i know someone who works for Sky and they don't ask you for your bank details unless you're changing them or you need to pay for something extra. Seems to be a few scammers trying to use Sky as a way to get your details

I think it's a pretty good rule of thumb never to give you bank details to an unsolicited caller. In fact it a good idea not to give any information at all to an unsolicited caller.

I 1471'd the number later last night & it looks like MF is right. The answerphone said summink like, 'welcome to digital satellite blahdy blah, please enter your warranty number' Account details indeed!
Anyway, I want ESPN for the NHL but with Sky it's £16.99 a month, with BT it's £9.99 a year! Like I said, we can't get Virgin.
Bigyin, what do you mean 'Land'?

BT Vision is much better than $ky if only for one reason - no more adverts (except for Freeview of course), they even cut the adverts out of the Replay.

I'd suspect more $ky sports rights will be made available to Virgin/BT after the recent rulings over charging.

BT Movies is getting better with a wider choice of movies in both standard and HD. Most appear on or close to the DVD release date and at around 4 quid for 24 hours rental compares well to Blockbuster/ILoveFilm. The recent addition of Warner films has made the Picturebox package worth the money.

There is even some MTB material available under Sports or PTV.
