MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Looking for something more comfortable for work (delivery courier) and the odd weekend hill walk, these stood out to me in Millets as good looking walking shoes and I've been really impressed with the comfort right from the off. Think I paid around £70 for them.
Alas almost immediately I found out that walking on damp pavements is like navigating an ice rink and forget dry socks after a bit of rain, but the real nail in the coffin is the split on top above my big toe. They aint five months old. They clearly were designed to be worn in a carpeted house instead of slippers.
Anything (perhaps from another brand) in a similar style I should consider?
I find Scarpa really comfortable, had a few pairs.
Just got these, only worn them a few times but very comfortable so far

Adidas Terrex.. but they seem to slowly lose waterproofness over time.
I work outdoors and usually go through 2 pairs a year.. but i walk a very long way in them.
This is probably a thing with most Gore-Tex lined footware?
Watching with interest. The quality of Merrell has absolutely nosedived in the past few years. Currently wearing some of Decathlon's finest 50€ walking trainers and already they're wearing better than the last two pairs of Merrells I've had.
Salomon xa pro or the x ultra - goretex models are super comfy and lasts or at least the old model did. Always old stock about as they have been super popular for yrs.
These are super comfy and waterproof too. They're a trail running shoe but are great for lowland walking as well.

Salomon xa pro or the x ultra
+1
Very comfy and last well. The Goretex ones are as waterproof as you could reasonably expect from a trainer style shoe, you will get wet feet if water gets in the hole you put your foot in!
I like the quick lace system Salomon do too.
Cheers guys, I'll check out those suggestions.
Big Scarpa fan for actual hiking. I do find that the gate you have while walking is not as good as a more flexible shoe though.
Been experimenting with Inov8 shoes too, trying one of their sub300g walking shoes. Great for fast hiking but they don’t seem super sturdy. Have about 200 miles on a set and some wear to the tops.
Also a big fan of Terrex, actually wear them as trainers most of the time. I go through 2 sets a year so that echoes what had been said above.
Another vote for Adidas terrex. If they fit you there's a massive choice.
most lighter weight boots shoes aren't expected to last very long any more - works for me as the soles are wearing out about the same time as the tops.
I too experienced a pair of intercepts
Like ice skating as you say!
Luckily the sole started falling apart after a few months. I sent them back and was refunded.
Try that with yours
Scarps approach shoes. Currently walking 60km/week in then. I like them as they lace all the way down and are quite narrow for my stick feet. Not very waterproof, but I’d buy them again. In fact I will be as they’re wearing down. I’ve walked about 500km this year. I might go gore tex next time.
Highball

I got some cheap Hi Tec Quadra from Go Outdoors (waterproof £45, non-waterproof £35) and find them more comfortable than my pair of Keen approach shoes. Agree about Merrell's going downhill in quality - had a pair for years which were great and bought another pair when they eventually fell apart after being relegated to DIY duties. The second pair last about a third of the time of the first pair before the sole and uppers started detaching from each other. Would hesitate to but Merrell again.
