Good morning all.

My old iPad is now struggling due to lack of storage, updates, etc.

So, looking for an alternative (don't fancy the larger capacity new prices...)

Reality is that any tablet only needs to:

Take the odd picture
Surf the internet, including accessing here..
Additional data storage capability if required

My local Costco have a Lenovo Ideapad ZA6F0025GB, 64mb which looks the biz, but, TBH, I know little about such things....

Help!

I'm sure the answer is probably an iPad, but I bought myself a Samsung S6 Lite about 6 months ago and am quite pleased with it.

It does Zwift OK, battery life is good, has a pen thing that I thought was a gimmick but is actually quite useful.
It's a decent product. Only annoying thing is that apparently you can't connect to a big TV via the usb-c connector. I've not tried it, but there's lots of stories on the internet about it.
You can cast to a TV, but there's a slight lag and still means you can't connect to a normal monitor.

Lenovo seem to be the only other Android tablet manufacturer worth looking at.
I'm sure they've recently announced some new products? Might be worth a look depending on how much you want to spend.

Another vote for the S6 Lite.

Bought my wife one for her birthday and it's been very good.

Did look at the iPad as I was contemplating a switch to Apple but she decided against one for herself as she likes Android.

The pen works well, does all the basics and is very solidly built.

does some great tablet reviews btw.

Not geeky but very good on how things work day to day.

I got my daughter a “very good” refurb from music magpie. A first gen iPad Pro and it has been brilliant so far, 18 months in. Couldn’t tell it wasn’t new apart from it not having the accessories and original box.

Was pretty impressed so got her a phone too, which had a glitch in the screen after a few days, sent it back and they sent me a new one straight away that has been great.

Worth a look as I think I only paid £240 for the Pro.

Samsung galaxy tab s6 lite here as well. Not worked it very hard, t'internet,  youtube and ebay are about it. No issues with it so far, more then enough memory and good battery.

Samsung are doing cashback offers on their range as well at the moment if you buy from certain suppliers. A####n being one of them. Got mine for £189 with a deal and cashback last month.

Why aren't you allowed to say Amazon?

It's not the done thing round here these days, shopping there. If its not sold by your local indi retailer it just isn't cricket.

it's at this point I'd generally say chromebook

Get one with a flip screen.Like this

It'll let you use all android apps, and will act as a tablet when you want, and a computer when you want

course, personal opinion and all that. And someone'll be along in a minute to say Apple.

Hiya!

Asking 'is there an alternative to an iPad is a bit like asking 'is there an alternative to meat?'. The answer is no. Simply because the 'alternatives' are never anywhere near as good, and will only disappoint. 'Vegan bacon' Lol! 😀

Get another iPad.

I have to agree with the recommendation for another iPad from the refurb store (unfortunately they only have the Pro in stock at the moment though) - you already know your way around the OS so why get another brand and have to learn a new OS?

You could also try Music Magpie (as mentioned above) or Cex (or take a risk with Ebay but you won't get a warranty).

Well, iPads are nice and all but since the OP says...

Reality is that any tablet only needs to:

Take the odd picture
Surf the internet, including accessing here..
Additional data storage capability if required

and

don’t fancy the larger capacity new prices…

...it doesn't seem that another iPad is a sensible solution.

Yes, I for one only buy organic, hand reared iPads from my local orchard.

Amazon is poison, though. I'll try and order from elsewhere if I can.

It is if the OP would consider an older model as a refurb or from a trusted seller - perhaps they hadn't considered that option and just assumed they had to pay full price for a latest generation model?

If the OP (or anyone else) is still looking for an iPad then check out the Argos clearance outlet on eBay. I’m typing this on a new 2017 iPad Pro with 10.5 inch screen and 512gb which cost £380.
A bit of a bargain. Performance is similar to the current low end iPad but this has more storage, better cameras, more ram and a nicer screen.
It’s also new so no gamble to take with the battery. Argos seem to have loads of them so they must be sitting on a load of NOS.

What cheap 10 inch tablet for radio and Apple music ?
Expandable memory ,cheap and none of the whirly wheel nonsense when changing what I'm listening to.
