[Closed] Alps - recommendations needed

For those who have been following me (is there anyone?) I went to the Alps for the first time in a long while to Val d'Isère this summer. I had a blast, and only hurt myself rather mildly. Result.

OrangeSpyderMissus has agreed to go next summer with the kids. She'd like somewhere the kids can run around outside so thinking some sort of chalet,
or possibly a ground floor apartment or gite type thing (but not an apartment with empty beer bottles everywhere like when I went back to see my old mates this summer 😳 )

Having searched a bit, this isn't looking like it's going to be in Val d'Isère. Tignes may have some options, but otherwise, any recommendations? Has to offer

- decent biking for Jeffsy and I. Accessible stuff for OrangeSpyderEldest and is CNOC/Beinn (see other thread...) would definitely be fab
- activities for OrangeSpyderEldest (who'll be 4.5 at the time of the trip) so ponies, trampoline, climbing walls
- stuff for OrangeSpyderYoungest would be great, but at 2.5, I suspect he'll be too young still for most stuff
- Accomodation where the kids can run around while we prepare breakfast
- something to do when it rains (indoor swimming pool, for example)

Have considered Avoriaz (lived there too, but winter only, bitd) but unsure. We both have a poor impression of Morzine, possibly because the only bits we really ever visited were the supermarket on the road down to Thonon, the road down to Thonon and the road to Cluses.

Morzine is great for families. We are seeing more kids there every year. Indoor and outdoor pool (plus the awesome pool at avoriaz which you can drive to or bus and cable car). Ice rink too plus a load of outdoor stuff when the suns out. Very accessible trails so its easy to get back for lunch if needed or the kids can hang out at the beach on the lake in les gets and you can do lift assisted laps stopping on the way past to say hi or swap riding/child minding duties. At the end of the day its a down hill roll back home so you can ride late too. Lots of nice, spacious chalets.

Soelden/Otzal valley? Very well set up for kids/families.

This is interesting... Would we not just stay in Les Gets, though? 😕

More generally, thanks nickjb, I suspected that might be the case on Morzine, that it actually ticks most or all the boxes...

It'll be the French Alps or nothing. I said OrangeSpyderMissus, but it's OrangeSpyderMadame, en fait, and we live in France so will be driving there, and after last time really don't feel like driving further than the French Alps.

Its an option. Nice enough place, not as much to do as morzine. Main problem is its at one end of the area so its quite a journey to chatel or champery and more importantly a big journey back and you need to be back in morzine before the lift shuts or its a big climb home. Staying in morzine means you just need to roll down from pretty much anywhere so you can ride further and later. We often ride until the last lift and then have a relaxing ride home

Morzine (bigger better outdoor pool) or Les Gets. Great thing here is loads of trails marked and on paths amd easy to mix “bike park” with natural, ride half day only and/or meet everyone for lunch.

I haven’t seen prices (possibly nuts) but the new Club Med in Samoens maybe a good option

Somewhere around Lake Annecy, riding on Semnoz or La Clusaz

You only need an indoor pool if you're in Morzine 😆

My wife is also concerned that Morzine is in the shade most of the day 😯

Had a look at some chalets in Morzine yesterday. There do seem to be some nice things to be had. Don't really know where we should be aiming for, and are still a bit concerned that doing any sort of activity would mean using the car. Is that the case?

Some lovely chalets there. Try to find one a sort walk from town, not too far up the valley. The sun does rise late and set early but it gets the sun in the day.

There's a few things that are easier with a car and some good day trip destinations a short drive away but if you don't want to drive then there's plenty in town. Lots of active stuff under the suspension bridge. Also the buses are pretty good and link up the the lifts.
