i bought an airport express first generation. second version because i thought i could print from my ipad by connecting my canon printer to the airport express,
it is showing in the airport utility but when i try to print it say no airprint printer found ,
a quick google suggests i need an airprint printer but what would the point of that be if i had a air print printeri could print direct anway without the a p e couldnt i?

You still need an airprint enabled printer so as it supports the relevant driver technology.
You can print from a mac to a printer connected to an airport express primarily because the mac will have the correct drivers for the printer installed.
