[Closed] Airbrush Compressors?

Hi! I know a few of you airbrush for models etc, so thought I might be able to get some good advice!

After visiting my parents I found my old airbrush and brought it home. I used to use compressed air cans with it and then a cheap compressor that's long gone now.

I was thinking of getting a new compressor so I can start using it again, but was wondering if I should get a dedicated airbrush compressor, or whether to get a 'normal' one so perhaps I can use it for other stuff? (although not sure I would use it for anything else really!? (Airtools, inflating tyres??)).

If I do get a dedicated one is it worth getting the double piston, or will a single be fine for what I would use? Do I need to have one with an air tank?

Thanks for the help!

I have a SwitZer with a tank after asking on here.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SwitZer-Double-Action-Airbrush-Kit-Compressor-With-Tank-AS186-Paint-Nail-Tatoo/132166170957?epid=26018379175&hash=item1ec5b7b94d:g:b-AAAOSwuIlaWMw9

It works well enough for me.

I was about to check which one Boy1 has, but then looking at that kit ^^^^^ it seems to be the same.

The airbrushes are a bit hit and miss, but the compressor is fine. He’s just had a Badger Patriot airbrush for his birthday and it’s vastly better than those in the kit.

His was £59 a couple of years ago. Worth shopping about just in case.

What Harry said, there's loads of similar compressors around similar to the Switzer at varying prices. Make sure your moisture trap's decent as well.

Ah cheers, that was the sort of thing I was thinking of! Works fine then? Does everything you would need?

I did this with it and I'm a complete novice.

Wind the pressure down to 10 psi and off you go. Even the cheap airbrushes are OK if you keep them clean.

Cool! Don’t quite believe you’re a novice though! 🙂

He isn't, he's been posting stuff like that for ages. 🙂

Only the fourth kit I've done with it. I find it easier than using a brush.

1. Rubbish

2. Lower pressure, more thinners, pre-shading.

3. Over did it and it ended up too dark.

4. Less is more. Loads of pre shade and a very light top coat.
