Not a grouping, unless you impose it
Day is pickin' on Cougz coz hez a Mod...
T'is all.
They really should be tucked up in bed, way past thier 7pm watershed.
I have curiosity as to why they've done it (which was answered two pages back). I was surprised because, as I've said, I'd no idea (and tried to enquire and got mauled).
well, i missed that, please clarify why these neighbours of yours, keep pigeons?
Not a grouping, unless you impose it
Indeed. I think that is pretty much true of any collective noun or phrase for literally anything. Are you going to be not offended by all of them? ๐
I didn't mean you personally, GrahamS. I meant your people.
googled your own name and 'offended' yet? Shocking isnt it! You might be 5 times more offendy than me!
I hate it when smug people who think they have the monopoly on the correct acceptable way of communicating an idea, or the truth, won't come down from their mountain and let us know what we should be thinking and saying, and play little games trying to get us to guess...
Cougar I think you showed genuine interest in your neighbours to try and understand how what they might be up to didn't fit in with your self-confessed stereotypes of their interests. I'm sorry that your curiosity has been used to have a go at you. I'd be interested to know the outcome of this.

Yes I did. I got twice your figure when I tried me.
I'm sure a mod could give us more precise figures but from our profiles I have contributed to 446 pages worth of threads and you 158, which suggests my Offendy Ratio is considerably lower than yours. ๐
I haven't read the last six pages.
Could anyone summarise this as a haiku for me?
Fences hide pigeons
Perhaps something else
Cougar seeks truth, pedants rebel
Six ****ing pages
Of squabbling, to establish
Are pigeons racists?
Chapeau ๐
Is this classed as locker room banter?
A fence on a shed
for pigeons. Racing, perhaps,
but no racist intent.
That's not a haiku
Should be five, seven then five
Nature reference, too
I think you will find
Mine IS five, seven, and five
And mentions pigeons
it is meaningless as a term and meaningless to talk of pigeon fancying being a thing 'in the asian community'. By what criteria are you categorising this community such that any meaning can be inferred from that categorisation.
And yet it's not, because as we established on page 4(ish?), there's a passionate culture in ****stan for racing pigeons. Ergo it makes perfect sense for British nationals of ****stani descent to carry on this culture. This is the piece of information I was missing, and why I asked the question in the first place. I've learned something today. Has anyone else?
I think you showed genuine interest in your neighbours to try and understand how what they might be up to didn't fit in with your self-confessed stereotypes of their interests.
Thank you. That's exactly where I was coming from (the dubious construction which was my primary concern aside).
cougars jaw dropped
pigeon loving foreigners?
ignorance is shit
I can not count
Never sure if it is syllable
Or phoneme. Winter.
I get a black pigeon in my garden sometimes.
On structure, is it blocking sun/ view? Are they noisy? Does it smell? If its not actually bothering you then leave it.
Short days make folk sad
He's a knob about football
But not a racist
well, i missed that, please clarify why these neighbours of yours, keep pigeons?
(which was answered two pages back)
If you're not going to read the thread then we're at angry dolphins.
So.. you think they keep pigeons because some ancestor of theirs came from ****stan?
The answer is 67.5
So.. you think they keep pigeons because some ancestor of theirs came from ****stan?
It's disappointing that you can't back down / cut me some slack, I thought you were better than this.
Illuminate me, as you clearly know my next-door-but-one neighbours better than I do. When did these "ancestors" arrive exactly?
You tell me, you say they are of ****stani descent and that explains why they keep pigeons
This has now turned into a right bag of bollocks.
Time for Question Time; let's hope that Charlie hasn't infiltrated that - and that it's free of pigeons.
I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Lt Pigeon and Mould Old Dough from their chart-topping long player Mouldy Old Music - go find it on google.
Cougar - if you stop posting, this will die a natural death unless....you want to prolong this.
Might be easier if you used your moderator powers and blocked Charlie mate.
The bloody shed will have fallen down before you lot give up the silly arguments over it.
Cougar - if you stop posting, this will die a natural death unless....you want to prolong this.
You may have a point.
Might be easier if you used your moderator powers and blocked Charlie mate.
Nah, that's an abuse of power, and empowers those who want to take a crack at a moderator. I'm not a mod here, I'm a forum user like everyone else.
I thought you were better than this.
Not been here long?
Are you cougars neighbour charlie you seem to know a lot about them
Sorry "know" nee assume
Pedantry. God's* finest work.
* any of them, I'm easy.
You tell me, you say they are of ****stani descent and that explains why they keep pigeons
TL;DR:
****stanis near me have pigeons. In my experience, that's unusual.
Actually, breeding racing pigeons is very popular in ****stan.
Ah, I didn't know that, that's really interesting, thanks.
So these polish neighbours keep ****stani racing pigeons in a illegal granny flat next door to cougar ?
How does granny feel about all this ?
It's disappointing that you can't back down / cut me some slack
There is no backing down to be done and i don't need to cut you slack, i have not criticsed you, merely pointed out that some of your terminology needs to be considered. I would hope that you would recognise that.
Usually you are quite open to thinking about things like that. This become more problematic when after someone's posting about pigeon keeping being popular in ****stan, you then suggest this explains why this neighbour keeps pigeons.
is it blocking your view (as others have said, looks like it's enhancing it at worst)?
if not... live and let live
these are difficult times - let some other tosser be the spiteful nimby grass
at least that way you'll have a clear conscience (and maybe an occasional pigeon pie or two if you're lucky)
Pity sake Charlie.
Cougar's cultural curiousity has led to the cheerful discovery that he has more in common with his neighbours than he previously realised.
And for some odd reason, rather than celebrating that fact, you are determined to twist what he says so that you can lecture us on how not offended you are by it.
Give it a rest.
i have not criticsed you, merely pointed out that some of your terminology needs to be considered.
That's quite an interesting sentence (fragment). So you're not suggesting there is anything wrong with what he's written, but that maybe he should have written something different (without actually throwing any light on what that something different might be - though that's a different argument).
Discovered a new community tonight "the professionally offended" I wonder if they keep racing pigeons
Cougar - take your point about you being a forum user in this context but I would turn to Frank Spencer to describe posts from certain others.......Some mothers do 'ave 'em.
It's a bit like watching or listening to politicians in UK & US just banging on and on and on ad infinitum - usually because they are pathologically incapable of accepting they may be up the wrong tree......no, it's not you who is up the tree.
Anyway, what about Lt Pigeon? That is much more important.
If i can be arsed I'll find something in the googlesphere and post it.
Pour a large one, sip slowly, go to bed.
I should point out that who think this has gone on too long could easily not read. For now, i'l refrain from addressing other people's views as there is the danger of conflating them with Cougar, for whom i still have a great deal of respect. I'm a little surprised that Cougar has expressed himself in the way he has and that he continues to stand by it.
Becasue he is usually rational and reasonble, i'm trying to work out why he takes this approach. Because from where i stand, it looks a bit like
Gosh! ****stanis with pigeons! That's strange! It's not what they do is it? Oh, yes it is. There loads of them in ****stan. Now i see why they do it
A bit too much essentialising for Cougar, i think.
But if that seems unproblematic Cougar, then maybe the discussion is dead. TBF, i don't really care too much what others think about this. I'm accustomed to a certain baseline. I'm a little surprised that you have not 'backed off' either, to consider what you are saying
Just putting this out there
