If I were to buy it, I'd be migrating my catalogue from Elements Organiser, which lets me put star ratings on pictures.

Could I do something like batch convert all raw files with 3 or fewer stars to JPG?

In lightroom that is a piece of piss. You can filter your photos on any of the atributes such as star ratings, the camera used, the date and flags or tags and a gazillion other things.

Once filtered you can then do anything you want by selecting all including exporting to JPG.

If you want to get rid of the RAW files then you could delete these and import the JPGs into the catalog.

It will take about 5 mins + waiting time depending on how many photos you are converting/deleting

You could also save it as a processing option, so you can intermittently just click on it and it will go through the process and catch any with those attributes since you last did it.

Should be easy enough to do, just import into LR and filter according to your requirements.

Can LR replace the elements catalogue?

A quick search on internets suggests that LR will detect the elements catalogue and offer to convert it for you.

Download an LR trial and give it a go.

This just reminded me to claim for the free copy I supposedly got when I bought an Epson printer last month: http://www.epson.co.uk/gb/en/viewcon/corporatesite/cms/index/10383/
