Hi can anyone help?
I would like to add a few DVD's to my iTunes library so I can play them back via Apple TV. I have Googled for software and there seams to be loads of different programs that claim to do just what I want. Tried one last night (trial version) but it did not work with the sound.
Has anyone got any recommendations of software they use?

Mac or PC?

If the former, have you looked at ripit?

DVD Shrink to err..backup your DVDs to VOBs then Handbrake to convert them to something iTunes can understand.

It's for a PC.
Have seen Handbrake mentioned else where so maybe will try that one.
DVD shrink also looks like it may be worth a go.

Not looking to make copies, but just want to be able to play movies via Apple TV and on my ipad and you end up waiting a lot longer for some movies to appear through iTunes store (such as 3 min gaps).

I used Handbrake to put about 10 films into iTunes on my MAC. Took forever and now recent updates to iTunes mean they won't play anymore.

Not worth the effort in the long run for me.

i did this for apple tv 1st gen and used handbrake for ripping and anydvd (on trial evaluation for decryption). there are presets for apple. haven't tried with 2nd gen apple tv but i would assume it would work. at the time the most useful information i could find about what software to use and which settings to select e.t.c was here linky

I just can't be bothered anymore TBH. For home viewing it's far simpler just to play the DVD. If I was away and wanted to watch something on an iPad or my phone, I would probably just rent something direct from iTunes.

Handbrake works on unencrypted content fine, but it's a real ball ache - I usually rip a few for holidays
