Or, to be less dramatic about it, shouldn't the UK send a copy of the stolen records which detail which of its residents/citizens were spying in the UK on behalf of East Germany during the Cold War, so that the German reconciliation and rehabilitation process can be continued?

On balance, my feeling is that the files probably should be passed back to Germany. The true damage of the agents' spying was felt by the East Germans whose continued oppression was (assuming it had any use at all) facilitated by the agents' reports, not by the Brits. And the Germans seem to feel that the Stasi file process is the right way for them - so their will should be respected, don't you think?
