Trying to print some labels using Word... I go into 'Letters & Mailings', 'Envelopes & Labels', 'Options', 'New Label' and set up the correct label dimensions. Then click on 'New Document' in the Envelopes & Labels window which brings up a page that looks to be formatted exactly as I want it to be (ie the same as my label sheet, 8 on a sheet in 2 columns, so 16 in total). All good so far...
I then fill in my labels, hit print preview and all looks good on this (text is all within the labels and properly formatted). Wah-hey I think, this ain't hard at all, so let's hit print... and then it all goes tits up 👿
For some reason the print output isn't like the print preview. It's printing each label too close together on the sheet, so that by the 3rd label it's overlapping into the 2nd and by the 8th label it's halfway up the 7th (if that makes any sense?)
I've gone into page setup and reduced the margins to 0 (the label sheets I'm using don't have any margins at all) and it does give me an error that 'one or more margins are set outside the printable area of the page', if I let it fix this then it gives me a .45cm top & bottom margin which then forces the 8th label onto a second page... If I tell it to ignore this error then it still doesn't work and gives me the output described above...
Can anyone help me out with getting this to work? Would really appreciate any help you can offer, I'm about to go mad and throw my PC through a window or something!
Cheers
My (Mac) version of word has a preference setting to set the label manufacturer & type. Make sure you don't have something similar.
drag and drop for Windows. Drag PC to the edge of the desktop. Drop in the Trash.
Sorry, not much help, am I? I'll just get me coat, then. ;0)
psychle - had the same problem when trying to create address labels at Christmas. Word seems hopeless and very non user-friendly in this mode. I managed to do them eventually but it was a very Heath Robinson affair. Can you ask a PA to help you?
Don't have a PA... not that upmarket unfortunately 🙁
You need to ensure fit to page option is off, paper size and margin size are correct in page setup/printer properties.
the label sheet I'm using doesn't have any margins, so i've set these to 0 in page setup, but this gives me an error saying it's outside the printable area of the page. How do I get around this?
managed to jimmi it after a lot of mucking around... ended up having to fiddle with the line spacing and go right into the printer setup to find an obscure setting that stopped it trying to resize... jeez, what a faff 🙄
thanks for the help folks, appreciated 😀
