Strange day today cycling home on the Leeds liverpool canal towpath
I came across a 2 ft pike flapping around on the bank .
no fisher folks about and saw no other people around so plopped it back in the water where it swam off fast no worse for its adventure on land .
I can only think it had somehow jumped out .
Greedy Heron or the like would be my guess 🙂

Pike didn't have its rebound damped enough whilst in da flow.
Must have been an Elver jump to get on the Canal bank. Was it just Perched there or Floundering about?
Either way an odd Plaice for a Pike Tope be.

Typical spawning behaviour from a small male 'jack'. They chase each other round trying to win the attention of the big old girls.
They'll often charge at each other from under water with little thought as to where they might land. When I used to do a bit of piking, I had a small jack jump into my landing net whilst landing a big female.
A 2 foot pike would be FAR too big for a heron.

A tenner says that fish didn't stay in that heron's beak for longer than 1/10th of a second after that pic was taken! 🙂
Pike are incredible fish, the power - even in a small fish - is unbelievable. Might dust down the lure rods...

Had one jump out at me once while stalking carp in the margins, i think it mistook my foot for a small vole or something, not realising it was attached to me.
Heron or cormorant dropped it in flight would be my guess or a mink
