I'm using a Qnap server and when ever I move or create a folder within the server it is automatically set to read only or archive. This then restricts me from moving or renaming the folder.

I can sometimes work round this my changing the attributes of the folder and unticking the read only or archive boxes but sometimes it still won't let me adapt the folder bringing up a message saying the folder is currently in use.

Its mighty annoying, anyone know what is playing at before I spend hours researching it?

The archive bit will always get set - it is used to show that a file has been created/amended for backup purposes.

The read only bit is strange - does that always happen when moving a folder to a share that you have read/write permission for ? Does it only happen with some shares ?

Make sure that you have the latest firmware installed on your box, and perhaps try moving your data out of a share, deleting and recreating the share then copying everything back in.

You might also find some help here. Note that some of the posters can be a little bit bite-y if you don't supply all the information on your setup when asking a question.
