Isn't that exactly what it is doing? And to a lesser extent what everyone's does. Your eyes just sense stuff, its your brain that stitches that together into something useful.

Even with a fully functioning brain and knowing that they're there, the yellow dots are still invisible!

What we perceive of the world is always the end result of processing by our brains, and our brains are capable of lots of amazing feats of processing to help make sense of things. The inverted glasses experiments show how the brain can adapt to glasses that initially make everything appear upside down. After a period of adaptation it's possible to do things like ride a bike whilst wearing them.
