I forgot when the Beeb were transmitting it, and missed the beginning but recorded the rest, which I’m watching now. I tried finding it on the iPlayer so I could watch it from the beginning, but I can’t find it anywhere! 🤷🏼♂️
I did enjoy The Staves singing Yes, though, and the bit I managed to watch at the time, watching the musicians, there were a lot who really seemed to be enjoying themselves! Sort of “I never, for one second, thought I’d be allowed to play this as part of an orchestra!” Great to see Carl Palmer on drums as well - I saw ELP on the Trilogy tour in Cardiff, what a drummer!
The orchestra + rock/pop thing can be a bit weird and theres a lot of it now (Ibiza classical, Fabio&Groovriders + Orchestra etc etc).
Have seen very mixed reviews for this one - comments that the singers seemed under-rehearsed or not up to the songs they took on. When it's good it's really good but most of the time I think that's when the original music suits it. The Nick Drake prom was beautiful. Likewise the Mose Sumney a few years ago. John Grants BBC Philharmonic concert(for 6Music) is my favourite recording of his stuff.
The Northern Soul prom got rave reviews and I was there. But it was absolutely made by Darrell Smith and didn't really kick off until his numbers.

Kind of related: I was at the Nadine Shah gig with Northern Symphonia Orchestra last week and really enjoyed it. That was recorded by Radio 3 and was aired on Sunday evening.

Thanks @Del @P20 for putting us onto that. What a remarkable way to while away a couple of hours. There was some obscure stuff I'd never come across, but standout moments for me were Tubular Bells at 0:43:40 (it absolutely had me in tears), Entangled at 1:14:15 (any version of that is a truly beautiful piece of music), The Great Gig at 1:32:30 (also a great piece of theatre, have seen Aussie PF and BritFloyd do it) and the less well-known Crime of the Century at 1:39:19. Loved them all. Not underwhelmed at all.

A great way to spend the afternoon - having been a big Genesis and Floyd fan in my 6th form days I know what I Like, Entangled and Great Gig in the Sky really stood out - as much as I like Griff with SFA though I'm not sure he was the right singer for what he did

I am a big fan of Yes. Genesis, Supertramp and King Crimson, but my fave bit was Peter Hamill singing "Refugees". Amazing he got anywhere near the high notes given his age, but the expression was still there.
