Just wondering if some of you network bods can enlighten me…

I have a TP-Link MR6400 (i think) 4g router. I use it in my van when we’re away and hook up a mini nas so kids have got internet without tethering my phone and draining the battery and also movies from my collection.

Inside the van there’s a notable drop in signal so i was thinking swap the routers small external antennae for something better sitting outside the van. But then i’m thinking what signal do the routers antennae deal with?

Do they do both LTE / wifi, wifi only and the 4g antennae is inside the black box = nothing I can do or do they do LTE only and wifi is dealt with inside the black box (i’m doubting this).

The router has 2 SMA antennae but depending on the signal they deal with i could either waste my money and get nothing from it or hopefully get a much better signal strength.

Need a puck aerial mounted on the outside of the van. Putting the router in metal box never works well.
puck

Google 4g puck antenna.

The SMA connectors will be for an external 4g antenna, nothing to do with WiFi - as above you'll need to mount an external antenna on the outside of the van to get a decent 4g signal.

Thanks. Been looking at the puck antenna’s. I’ll drill a hole in most things but draw the line at the bodywork!!! I’m going to look at suction mounting it and cable through the door rubber or something like that.
